Intermittent random cold tingling all over

I am a 43 year old male (vegetarian), slightly overwight. I have experienced muscle twitching mainly in my calf and shoulders for at least the past ten years. The twitching has been intermittent in severity and has at times spread to other limbs, hand, arms, chest. I've gradually accepted that this is "normal" for me however the last couple of days I've begun having a sensation like cold ice water being flicked at me quite randomly - i.e. on a leg, hand, arm, back etc. and at varying frequencies - sometimes I can go for an hour or more without this sensation. At other times it happens every few seconds.
I did attend my doctor when the muscle fasciculations became worse - he tested me for dietary deficiences but found none. Also ran a Lyme test since I was bitten by a tick ten years or so ago - this was also negative.
I don't experience any back pain but I do have heel spurs and raised arches - could one of these be affecting a nerve?
I suffered with labrynthitis 10 years or so ago - this returns occasionally to a lesser extent.
I wondered if you have any idea what could be the cause of the icy sensations which I'm now experiencing?
Thanks very much in advance for any help!

hi stan. i am experiencing the exact same symptoms as you. i had a few red bumps that almost looked like mosquito bites on my shins as well prior but i'm not sure if its related. nobody seems to know what is going on. i have only had the water sensation for 3 days now. did yourse end up resolving? Did they officially decide it was a virus or say what kind of virus. i appreciate your help. anyone else with any input would be appreciate. thanks!

About the B12 deficiency: I've read a bunch of places that numbness and tingling as well as the possible vitamin deficiencies that cause them may be related to celiac's disease because of the body's inability to absorb nutrients.  There are a lot of symptoms for celiac's.. maybe you could try being tested for that

Thanks for the suggestion - I've dug around for information about this and wouldn't say that I have most of the symptoms listed - this problem didn't start in either my feet or hands and I'm not a big drinker. I don't think I've been tested for diabetes but don't have most of the symptoms related to that. I don't have any noticeable loss of sensation in any of my limbs or any weakness to speak of.
I read that thiamine supplementation may help as well as B12 but probably not immediately.
Thanks again!!

You may have a polyneuropathy, which could affect the nerves all over. The question is What is causing it? vitamin B12 deficiency is a common cause.

Thanks very much indeed for all your input.
I visited my regular doctor a couple of days ago - he seems to think my present problems are virus related but that was the only explanation he could offer as he thinks that no nerve problems would cause events all over my body - rather in a single limb etc. Oddly enough my syptoms did seem to improve over the 24-hours following my visit - although I don't feel that this is either virus or stress related. Today, the symptoms are worse again and now I have random muscle jerking in various limbs - not actual visible jerks but just the sensation. Less of the icy cold water splashing me feelings but these seem to have changed and become hot stabbing sensations which started on the top of my head and spread randomly to other parts.
My problems are certainly far less when I'm lying in bed and generally don't begin until an hour or so after waking. I wonder if there could be some problem with the nerves in my spine or neck - could that cause " all over body" sensations?
Thanks again for the input - you have given me a couple of pointers with the  "autonomous dysregulation" and "peripheral nerve hyperexcitiability" - thanks also for the B12 suggestion, I've started taking a supplement.
It seems that the drugs Phenytoin and Carbamazepine may also help - guess I'll have to see what my doc. thinks - I'm going to leave it over the weekend and if there is no improvement visit him again early next week.
Good luck to everyone!

Hi, I don't have any skin swelling I'm afraid....just the water sensations. Mine has nearly gone away since my epilepsy medication was increased so we think it was to do with the nerves in my brain being overexcitable, rather than my peripheral nerves. You have my sympathies though. It's a horrid sensation and impossible to ignore. I prefer having bad fasciculations to the water sensations. I hope you find an answer.

Hi, I have sensations that water is running, trickling, splattered on my face, and entire body for 4 and one half years now.  I had every test under the sun and they all came back negative. spinal taps, mri, emg, -you name it i had them.  Mine started on my face first as if water was just running down on my scalp and all over my face and neck after about 2yrs. it spread to my entire body.  I take 11 different medications from the doctor and nothing helps.  One question I would like to ask you is do you have slight swelling, very slight swelling of your skin tissues? My skin has changed texture from this and my skin leaves indentations , hands, legs, feet etc.  My under eyes are very swollen since this has all started.. One doctor mentioned that an autonomic nerverous system dysregulation can cause swelling .  But I guess they don't know what to do about it.  One doctor said immune small fiber sensory neuropathy but the sweat test showed very little sweating loss on top of right foot.  It all started in my face and nose.  do you take any medicatons that help. I have fasciculations all over to. any feed back would be appreciated.  this has ruined my life, I hate waking up in the morning.  Mine is 24/7 never stops.  How could this be a neuropathy ? I never heard of neuropathy causing swelling of all skin tissues.  tests negative for autoimmune diseases.i also have dry eyes, blurry vision, dry mouth. I do not have MS either. It is so hard for doctors to understand that we know are body is not the same and how we feel.  half of the doctors looked at me as if I was nuts.  Please respond.  Thanks

I have paresthesias like that. I have had this feeling of being splattered with water and water trickling. Sometimes every few seconds for days then nothing for a few days. I have alot of fascics all over too and these tend to be worse when I have the sensations. Mine is much better now and only get one or two 'splatters' a day . I have simple partial epilepsy and for me it is probably something to do with that although docs arent sure whether its constant seizure activity in my brain or something to do with the meds I take.  They're sending me for an MRI and EEG.

I think there are probably many other things that can cause paresthesias and fasics most of them are probably unknown. These symptoms can be caused by peripheral nerve hyperexcitability.

I don't know about you Stan but for me I have that cold sensation with my B12 problem and also when I am having a migrane variant. My family says that the body parts I say feel cold are actually colder then the rest. It suggest some kind of neurological issue.
Hope you find a solution.
