strange symptoms

I have vertigo/headaches/tingling for 3 weeks. MRI is negative. I have had tingling sensation in my head and back.  The more stress, the more intense the symptoms.  I have a referral to see an ENT to see if the vertigo is peripheral.  If it is more centrally located then the neurologist will do further blood work and spinal tap.  I also have a right eye nystagmus. Any help would be appreciated. the GP keeps coming up with different diagnosis that don't quite fit the bill. Cranial nerve palsy #6, MS, etc...

Other symptoms-eye strain, hair loss, lightheaded sitting, standing, walking, laying down.

Hello. I am a little worried because I recently received a positive ANA test. This came after years of being followed for Menieres Disease with no relief. I have swishing in my ear, nausea, vertigo, migraine, light and noise sensitivity, extreme fatigue, hair loss, dx Dequervains tendon, history of miscarriag etc, etc. I asked my pcp to run the tests for lupus after learning that a family member has it and has many of the same symptoms  as I do. I have been so sick and get no relief what so ever.  My hair used to be thick and full, but now it is broken around the hair line and much thinner than it had been. I could go on and on, but honestly...I am tired. The ANA titer was positive, but low at 1:80. My sed rate was good. My pattern was finely speckled. The dsdna was 1.0. The urinalysis showed trace blood and higher than normal levels of uribilinogen. I redid the urinalysis and am awaiting the results. I see the Rheumatologist next week. Any advice? I am nervous. I saw a new neurologist last week who is sending me for an mri tomorrow and a tilt table test also. I have not yet advised her of my positve ANA.

Hi,

A positive ANA along with vertigo and nystagmus does raise the suspicion of lupus. Systemic lupus erythematosus can present as non specific neurologic symptoms like vertigo and nystagmus.
However nothing can be said for sure without a clinical exam. I would suggest you to consult an experienced neurologist and discuss this possibility with him.
Take care!

Doc, all my test came back ok except blood work call ANA-anti-nuclear antigen(?) Apparently i have some autoimmune disorder.  I have had hypothyroidism after having grave's disease irradiated. I have a hard time believing that my current symptoms have anything to do with my thyroid disorder. could you give me some ideas as what else this could possibly be. I once thought lupus because of the excessive hair loss i have been having,-but i have no butterfly rash to speak of. I see other similarites but i am currently lost as to what to look for... Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.
MRV and MRA are very helpful in diagnosis of arteriovenous malformations, vertebrobasilar syndrome which is characterized by vision loss, double vision, vertigo and diffculty in speech and swallowing. They are also helpful in diagnosing vascular lesions and aneurysm tumors.
Please go ahead and get them done. Let us know if you need more information.

Mri is negative, the ENT cleared me peripherally, so now the neurologist is doing a MRA and MRV as well as a duplex.  I have stabbing ear pain, severe headaches, inner eye pain, dizziness, and a feeling that I am not quite with it almost feels like out of body sensation.

Hi,

How are you?
It is important to rule out peripheral causes of vertigo and nystagmus like BPPV (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo), ear infections and Meniere’s diease.
Since your MRI of brain is clear chances of MS or stroke causing these symptoms is very less.
Please get an ENT exam done at the earliest. Do keep us posted!

Check for Chiari 1 Malformation.   I also have those symptoms and was just recently diagnosed with this and its where your cerebellum is lower than it should be and the tonsils of the cerbellum is compressing on the spine.  Go into the Chiari forum and check it out.
