tingling and pins and needles in arms , hands and feet and legs

In the last year I have suffered with tingling, burning , pins and needles in the feet, hands and legs. I also have a problem with my lower back and neck. My symptoms seen to last about 4to 5 weeks and then gradually go away. I get spasms in my back starting in the lower back and shooting upto the neck. this can very painful at times.  I get fatigued in the afternoon after being busy all morning, sometimes need a little sleep before I can carry on with other jobs. My GP has done all the blood tests and I am waiting for the results.  I am also waiting to go into hospital for laporscopy and cystoscopy to check my bladder, (feels like i have got a urine infection with the pain),bowel and fallopian tubes due to me being sterilised 2 years ago. I would like to know what else my doctor could do for me

I had the same pain in leg from herniated disc for at least a year.

I can hardly believe how much pain it was, and that it is gone now for about five years!

Chiropactor did not help at all. Surgeon did not recommend surgery until I can keep my bowel movement, because the herniation can come back any time anyway.

Ice helped me to reduce the initial inflamation.
Kneeling chair, then later some more confortable, ergonomic chair, very moderate exercise (no bending the back!), avoiding hours of sitting. These all helped the very slow recovery.

It comes back sometimes from sitting in uncomfortable chairs for hours (airplain, rental car). Then it goes away in a few days
if I take care of myself.

Hi, I have a 7 year history of disc herniation and degeneration which up until now has just caused me lots of horrendous back pain. The problem is at L5/S1, L4/L5. However, now the back pain is mild and I have dreadful pain in the back of my legs down to behind my knees and then into my feet and when my feet arent painful they are are constantly pins and needles.  If I stand or walk any distance at all it becomes much worse.  Any suggestions on what I can do or what the problem is?  I have seen an orthapedic surgeon in the past who talked about a possible spinal fusion although he could not guarantee success. I would really appreciate any help or advice because its very hard to cope with at present.  Thanyou, Lori

To Carol:

Funny I don't have Lyme Disease.. I was tested.  I have MCS..Multiple Chemicle Sensitivity...However, I did have amalgams removed.  I've had the herxheimer reactions before when I was killing yeast with NYSTATIN.  However, I didnt have burning..Howevr reading about herxheimer I don't see alot about burning...That is my primary symptom..Although I will start my zyrtec again..Alot of things sound right with Blood flow and tingling though..>>I will look into it..However, I believe my old levaquin symptoms came back with the zithromax.  I did have a parasite recently which was killed..Maybe it has something to do with my flora..Who knows...?  Thanks for your concern.

To be so young , honestly.... have you been through any tests at all yet from your primary doctor?
Any history of diabetes or prostate problems in family?
STD's ?(yah, I know it sounds serious, however antibiotics can clear alot of that up fast!)If....
Even a cat scan may show some underlying issue that may be readily cured.
Radiating pain else where in the body is an odd way to alert the body...
something internal may need some medical attention.
Sedentary is a word that really does scare me... & it should scare you too.
Even a diabetic can increase insulin production by waliking 30 minutes on a treadmill each day.
What worries me the most w/you is the lack of REM sleep which can mimick pain all over the body after too much time.
I've also personally experienced lack of sleep & excess urination due to the body being excessively stressed because FULL rest was not achieved.
Until you can get into see a docter, I highly suggest over the counter sleep remedys such as Costco's sleep aid.... try 1/2 until you trial basis the feeling it gives you and try not to take more than 5 nights in a row/ rest 1 or 2 nights(weekends).
Increasing your sleep may help lessen the frequent urination.
Keith, Did you know that even side stepping on your phone calls or marching in place, alternating knee raises at your computer desk will keep off 6-8 lbs a year alone> !!
If nothing else buy an extra large exercise ball to sit on at your desk while you type and read. This will strengthen all your mid core (abdominal) muscles. Believe me it will catch on in the office and you will have started a NEW FAD!!! Good Luck!

Keith,
If you're not in your 20's or early 30's anymore...Q's, Q's, Q's
just kidding. Pinched nerves may be very common....
t/t doctor to rule out any internal complications.
Have you tried an anti-inflammitory (ibuprophen)before bed w/ pillow between legs. Take a heat pad (preferrably the non-burning grained type you buy in the center of malls) heat that pad up in the microwave before bed and lie it on lower back.
Repeat these before exercise: Heat pad & anti-inflammitory ibuprofen. Hope its superficial and acute! Good Luck!
