twitching

I have been experiencing muscle twitching for the past couple of days in several areas. Recently i had gone through a period of bad health anxiety due to worrysome symotoms which didn't go away for months(4 months). These included bad stomach cramps, frequent loose stools, apparent respiratory viral infection accompanied by shortness of breath, cough which lasted months. I ahd to go to a resp. specialist who did soem tests and diagnosed me with asthma. My PCP diagnosed me with IBS at the same time after a sig flex showed nothing in my colon. At the same time i has weakness and apparent dehydration episodes with gagging or coughing up nothing. I got better but shortly afterwards had muscle soreness and fatigue. I eventually got to 100% and feel great but now i get muscle twitching which started in a small 'tandon' or fibre in my elbow. For the past couple of days i was experiencing fine muscle twitching in around my calves, arms, buttocks and other areas. The twitching ahsn't been non-stop but comes and goes. Also my legs and hands seem to be sensitive to certain positions whereby if i cross my legs for a moderate time they go to sleep or i get tingling feelings. I've read about MS, ALS and have some concerns, are these concerns irrational when taking into account my symtoms. I do not feel any muscle weakness at the moment. Should i consuly with my physician or are my symptoms not alarming?

thanks

For the past two years I have had twitching around my cheeks and nose. It is equal on both sides. It almost looks like an exaggerated smile. It is most embarrassing. There is no pain and I do sleep well at night. Sometimes it helps to chew gum or just eat. Some days are ok and other days are terrible. I have gone through many doctors and done the obvious checks and testing. Please offer suggestions.

My 3 1/2 old girl has night twitching. It occurs while sleeping, usually occuring, not always, around the period of sickness or temperature. It is hard to tell if she has always twitched as I only sleep with her for a short time while she awakes at night. She never experiences twitching while awake.
When I hold her at night, while she feels asleep, it feels like her nerves are moving; sometimes in her arm, leg, shoulder, toe, feet, all over, and sometimes simultaneously. Her extremities usually do not move, it's her nerves that are. Please help me.

Your symptoms of twitching may be representative of a number of things. From your newly diagnosed asthma, I assume you must be on inhalers. Some of them like albuterol can cause fine muscle tremors as well as steroid inhalers and pills.  If they are not medicine related, they could be part of a syndrome called benign fasciculation syndrome which is a condition in which you get little twitches or jerks throughout your body that do not lead to anything serious but can be annoying. They are increased wit stress and fatigue. I can't tell you 100% that you do or don't have ALS or MS from a snapshot description of your symptoms over the internet. But it doesn't sound like it. Go over your meds with your doc, and if the symptoms progressively worsen or significantly affect your lifestyle then ask for a neuro consult.  Otherwise it should be ok to just observe them for now.
Good luck.
