what do nuerologists do in the way of treatment ?

I have been to see a orthopedic consultant today after having a scan on my neck,  the reason for the scan was I have had neck arm and hand problems. I was sent for nerve conservation tests because of deadness in some of my fingers, this showed up a problem in my neck. I was told today that the scan show significant changes in my neck, also i was told I have a very narrow canal which I was born with. The ortho said he is now referring me to a nuerologist (consultant) to see if he can offer any treatment. I had a car accident about 15 yrs ago which left me with spinal problems but he said this is not through the accident.  can you tell me what this means and what a neurologist do for me ?

I have just found out its not a Neurologist I am referred to but a Nuerosuergon What is the difference and I still have no update on my M.R.I.scan results I belive my G.P.has them do you think I should discuss this with her ? Am really worried now.

Hi, if you can copy down MRI report it will be easier to answer your query but for the time being possibly they want to rule out extent of damage due to either nerve compression or canal narrowing. Neurologists assess these changes along with decide upon the need for surgery.
