Cure for OCD

I have learned a lot about OCD and how it affects everyone differently.  My question to you is do you how much research is being conducted on OCD?  Has there been any progress in finding a "solution?"  Who are the leading researchers on this?  As I understand it, there is no cure at the time.  Imagine how our life would be different if we didn't have to deal with this dreaded disorder anymore.  Please reply your thoughts on this post.  I wish everyone well.

There are plenty of people reseraching OCD.  However, I will say that you can look up an ongoing study at Johns Hopkins.  It is a family study to see whether OCD has a genetic link in families (which it does seem to have).  My family participated in this study and out of 4 of us, 2 other siblings have OCD as well as myself.

It is a neurotransmitter disorder.  That is why the SSRIs for the most part are effective in the teratment of OCD.  Since we can't change our brain chemistry without medications, then no I don't think there will be a cure.  However, the medications do give people their lives back.  Akin to being diabetic and taking insulin.  Like you said, OCD is different for everybody and it may be in part due to the differences in the amount of serotonin each person has floating around.

The combination of CBT and medication I think works very well.  From my own perspective, I don't think you can just throw medication at it.  The CBT is critical because as you know OCD is everchanging depending on the stressors in our lives.  And during the times when we are more stressed and our OCD is getting a little out of control, even while on meds, then you have the CBT techniques to fall back on.

Hope you are having only good days!
