hi, I am seeing un therapist but only for cognitiv therapie not for behavioral therapy. So my informations on this special kind of therapy are based on internet research.
Can you describe me the kind of exposure you made?
I had HIV anxiety before from working in an HIV lab. I was irrationally thinking I could get HIV from just touching things. My exposure therapy was to sit in an AIDS clinic on my lunch hour (I work across the street from a hospital) and after a while of doing that the thought went away.
Another type of "exposure" therapy I did was to do into a dark room, close my eyes, and imagine myself doing the things that I was afraid I would do. Irrational thoughts like harming people I loved. Once I tried to picture those actions, it made me realize that I wasn't that type of person and would never do those things. So I used my imagination for the exposure therapy.
Hope this helps.
Hi, what exercises/hands-on therapy has your therapist given you for sensorimotor OCD? Do you know of any that in particular address the blinking?
hey i hv dealt with this obsession , dont make u depressive first of all, because depression with ocd will make it tough
as by personal experience i would suggest exposures in a way like that
1. reading about breathing for some time about respiratory system, disease and all that then u would offcourse exp anxiety and obsession.
u hv to do first exposure without doing any compulsive behaviour ok
when u feel very anxiety after doing some days.
then
2. do some exercises, do running, climbing stairs and all that and make ur breathing heavy,
when u dont feel anxiety in this also
3. u can do imaginal exposure
like that i will have constant awareness of breathing, make a audio recrording and listen to it daily
when u dont feel any anxiety in it
4
sit in postion of meditation and concentrate on ur breathing forcefully
5
Breathing the “wrong way” on purpose for an extended period of time.
6
Breathing through a straw or coffee stirrer.
7
Performing an extended handstand.
8
Going snorkeling.
9
Sleeping while wearing a stethoscope.
10
Hyperventilating on purpose
11.
Going for an extended run.
12
Exercising on a Stairmaster.
hope it will help
any ideas for the blinking?
ur blinking obsession must be about whether ur blinking in a right way or not, so u can do exposure by
1) listen to audio recording " i am not blinking properly"
2)dont blink ur eyes forcefully for some time
3)blink very fast continously for some time
best of luck and reply me if it helps
Thanks for the ideas. The last question I have is, should I try to blink forcefully instead, because this is another thing my brain has tricked me into fearing. Perhaps blinking fast AND forcefully would be the best exposure?
yaa, u have to try both the extrems , and also dont give up doing these things in few days or a week, continue doing it for months untli ur mind gets bored from it
