Knee Floater?

Hi,

About two years ago, I took a bad fall on a log over a creek in Alaska.  I went down hard (I'm fat) and the outside of my left leg took the brunt of it.  Since then, I have had intermittent severe pain behind the knee that hits and is gone in a flash.  There is no warning when it's going to happen.  I reach out blindly to grab something near me when the pain hits because it does cause me to feel as if I am about to stumble but I have never fallen from this.  Sometimes I go days without an issue and other times it might hit two or three times during the day.

I went to my MD when I returned home from Alaska about a week later and he simply looked at it and said nothing appeared broken.  So I didn't worry about it.  A physical therapist I was seeing short-term for another issue told me I probably had knee floaters...broken off pieces of something that float in your knee and catch at certain times.  Again, nothing to worry about.

Has anyone had any experience with this?  Is there anything I can do about this?  It's been a couple years but if I didn't know better, I would say the pain is getting worse.  It hit today and I actually yelled out loud because of the pain level.  Fortunately, no one was around.

Thanks,

Nancy

Thank you for taking the time to respond!  I will contact an orthopedic physician - I wasn't even certain where to start - and take it from there.

Thanks again!

Hello Dear,
You should see  an orthopedic physician and go in for a x-ray to know the present state of the knee. There could be some internal trauma, tear or inflammation causing the pain.Do not neglect and  consult a physician.
