Thanks for your input. I have an apt. with a hand surgeon finally this Tuesday. I am hoping he will give me an injection to help resolve this problem. Is it commom for this to happen every morning upon waking? During the day my finder is not locked but feels as though it is being pulled into a fist almost like a rubber band is pulling it. My hand and fingers are very stiff and sore along with my wrist.
Hi, In this condition a digit sticks in the fully flexed position and must be straightened with the other hand, often with a painful snap. It is due to lack of free running of the flexor tendon through the tunnel at the base of the digit. It is more common in diabetics and in Rheumatoid Arthritis. It is treated by injecting the tendon sheath with a small volume of steroid and local anaesthetic or by surgical release of the tunnel if this is not effective. Success rate for percutaneous release with steroid injection twice as effective as steroid injection alone in thumbs. All the best.
