New onset of Trigger Finger and wrist pain

For the past week I have been waking up during the night with the middle finger on my right hand being locked. (Trigger Finger).  It will wake me up during the night because it is painful.  Upon waking in the morning it usually takes a good hour before it will stay unlocked.  The joints at the base of my fingers are very sore and swollen and so is my wrist. I have been taking anti inflamatories, ice and tried heat with no relief. I do have an appoinment with a hand specialist but it is weeks away as they are hard to get into.

Just wondering what could be causing this and what else I can do.  What are the usual treatments and is it common to have wrist pain also.  The back of my hand were the fingers bend into a fist is pretty swollen at times.  Any thoughts or input would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Thanks for your input.  I have an apt. with a hand surgeon finally this Tuesday.  I am hoping he will give me an injection to help resolve this problem.  Is it commom for this to happen every morning upon waking?   During the day my finder is not locked but feels as though it is being pulled into a fist almost like a rubber band is pulling it. My hand and fingers are very stiff and sore along with my wrist.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi, In this condition a digit sticks in the fully flexed position and must be straightened with the other hand, often with a painful snap. It is due to lack of free running of the flexor tendon through the tunnel at the base of the digit. It is more common in diabetics and in Rheumatoid Arthritis. It is treated by injecting the tendon sheath with a small volume of steroid and local anaesthetic or by surgical release of the tunnel if this is not effective. Success rate for percutaneous release with steroid injection twice as effective as steroid injection alone in thumbs. All the best.
