Please help.

I am sixteen years old and for a year and a half have been suffering from chronic hip, pelvic bone, and lower back area pain. The believed to have found a cyst in my hip but decided it was not the cause of my problems and wasn't big enough to have any effect, if it even was a cyst. I have been on heavy doses of Advil and Tylenol with no relief. I have done accupuncture and many, many sessions of different types of physio therapy with no relief as well. Within the year and a half i have gone for an x-ray, an MRI, a dedicated MRI and a bone scan. I play intensive soccer and have been offered scholarships to university for it, but i can't with this problem. I've lost alot of wieght due to it and become very weak and tired during times. Please help. I don't know what else to do.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello!

I would suggest you to follow up near a neurologist as the nerves of the lumbar spine can be irritated by mechanical impingement or disease anywhere along their paths from their roots at the spinal cord to the skin surface. Nerve testing by EMG, conduction studies might show something.

Any condition that results in movement or growth of the vertebrae of the lumbar spine can limit the space so ask the expert neurologist if the cyst might be impinging on your nerves.

Bone and joint conditions, tumors and congenital conditions should be ruled out.

Reactive arthritis, psoriatic arthritis or inflammatory bowel disease may cause this so you have to rule out other systemic connective tissue disorders.

You would need a proper diagnosis for the treatment.

Take care!

I wanted to add:  While searching this site, I noticed there is a "Undiagnosed Symptom Forum" in the ask the expert section.  Have you tried posting your concerns there to get a response from one of the docs?  It may help...

Wow, my heart goes out to you.  I had to reply to your post even though I am not sure I will help.  Have you been going to the same orthopedic doc or gotten second or even third opionions?  It seems to me that active 16 year olds shouldn't be having your problems.  I would get my medical records in order and take them to another ortho doc.  Ask around for a recommendation to a specialist.  How is your support system at home? Parents as concerned?

Good luck and I hope you are able to find a doc who can reslove your medical problems.
