I have a 'stiff toe' and sometimes numbing, but the bigger problems are the muscle imbalances I've dealt with for 3 years. My chiropractor tells me it's a combination of scar tissue formation around the surgical site, which can cause nerve entrapment, and that causes me not to bend my foot normally (which my body wasn't used to anyway) and now the muscles in my calf and opposite hip are constantly overused (not the way they should move). I am using a TENs unit for pain relief, and doing yoga for imbalances, and trying to move the foot as much as possible, in-between chiropractic treatments, which get the foot moving and temporarily relieve the numbness.
It's nice to have 2 pretty feet now (the surgery on the other side, 6 months later, was not as severe and healed well). Good luck!
A podiatrist did the surgery. The bunion toe is straight and has no pain. The hammertoe toe (second toe) is also straight and bendable. I had no complications during or after the surgery. Until...the problem with the weight being transfered to the second and third toe was discovered (or created; I guess it's like the chicken or the egg debate)
What type of doctor did this surgery?
