Ribcage necessity?

I'm trying to write a story that's involves rib removal in a modern facility, and it involves removing the entire ribcage.

Is it possible?  Will the person survive, and if so, how?

Hi there!

While partial or complete removal of a few ribs may be done in a few cases, removal of the complete ribcage is not done. The rib cage supports vital structures in chest. Removal of this support would lead to easy injury aside affecting the function on the vital structures such as the lungs and the heart and survival is unlikely.
Hope the information is helpful.

Take care!
