Anyone have a minimal-type brace that works for foot drop?

Hi: Last year I fell (hard) on black ice and developed foot drop involving the L-5 nerve. I had surgery and, oddly enough, it seemed to make the condition worse. My neurosurgeon sent me to an orthopedic specialist for a custom brace. I still haven't worn it because I can't find shoes big enough to fit it(!) It's huge! In the meantime, I bought a couple of braces on Amazon that had high ratings and I've been using them. My footwear, however, is severely limited. I continue to search the web for braces that are minimal and at the same time, work. Does anyone with this condition have anything they can add to my search? Thanks in advance.
