Orthopedics

I had carpal tunnel release last June 2010. I was given a local anesthesia in my arm, which felt like fire.  Shortly after I discovered my thumb was paralysed.  I have ulnar nerve damage.   I have read that this can be linked to the general anesthesia.   My arm and hand was fine prior to the surgery except for the numbness caused by the carpal tunnel.  Can you give me advice?

So did you have local or did you have general?  Also, the ulnar nerve innervates the 4th and 5th digits (ring and pinky), not the thumb.

Consult with an attorney that deals in malpractice cases.. I am serious. I had the same thing happen to me. I sued and won a small amount of money, however the point is you are now disabled in the use of the hand.
