Tuberclosis Arthritis

Hi,
My mom is suffering from Arthritis for 10 years now. She has acute pain in almost all the joints specially her ankles are always swollen. She took the treatment for regular arthritis since no doctor could diagnose the tuberclosis part of it.. and recently a new doctor took some tests and concluded that she is having tuberclosis arthritis. He has recommended R-Cinex. Could you please tell me if she is taking the right medice? what other teatment she could have to get the better results?

Thanks.

Hi Suri,
Thanks for your speedy response. The investigation performed is Mantoux Test and the result is 16 mm. I believe 14+ is considered as +ve for TB Arthritis. Below mentioned are some of the finding of the test

ESR always high beyond 50 mm in one hour
Total WBC count = 12700
RA factor positve 8 IU per ml.

She took Hydroquinine before (200 mg),  it helps but temprorirly

The medicines she is taking right now are-
R-Cinex (everyday morning , empty stomach)
Levon 750 mg
Wysolon  (1/2 tab) three times a day
Shelcal M (Calcium Tablets)
Nervic
Multivitamins and Liv 52

just an FYI, the link which you sent me didnt work for some reason.
Thanks.

Hi Peeyush, how are you and how is your mother doing? Hope she is now recovering from the pain well? Can you say what investigations were performed and how long she is on medication presently? In "Tuberculous arthritis, most frequently involved joints are the spine, hips, knees, wrists, and ankles. Tuberculosis involving the spine is referred to as Pott's disease. Tuberculous arthritis can be very destructive". You can get some information on the treatment aspect by going through this link: http://health.nytimes.com/health/guides/disease/tuberculous-arthritis/overview.html
She needs to be followed up regularly to assess the anti-tubercular treatment and to update on the progress. It is better to get her checked with an orthopedic surgeon. Take care and keep updating.
