Hello,
Exactly 4 weeks ago, I underwent surgery on my left forearm because the bone wouldn't allow for full range of motion (It fractured some years ago). A plate was placed in the radius of my forearm to straighten it and allow for more range of motion. The cast was removed yesterday and I've been moving my left hand and forearm little by little to get rid of the stiffness and regain motion/strength. However, I noticed when my moving my hand that my thumb wouldn't completely rotate like it normally did before the surgery (It only moves left, up, and down but it cannot extend to the right). My thumb doesn't hurt at all when I move it, but it just won't fully rotate when I move it around. I did some research and found that the part of my left thumb that doesn't allow for full range of motion is the metacarpal/CMC joint. My question is, is there anything I can do to get that motion of being able to extend my thumb all the way to the right again like before, or is this something that has to heal on its own?
