femur rod removal

left femur was broke 6 inches above knee a rod was put by going through top of femur the rod is threaded a few inches on both ends no other screws used this was done in 1984. It started bothering me a little so i figured now that i have insu and still fairley young .I would talk to a doctor about removal .the surgin said it looked like rod was sticking out in to knee and causing dic comfort  he explained he would remove through top of hip  about a 45 min surgey be home few hours 4 to 6 weeks back to work good as new. I am worse now thin i have ever been in my life.  during surgey he maid several attempts to remove rod ha said wouldnt come So he maid the decision to cut across knee find end of rod and drive out through hip. 2 hours 45 min in sugery 5 days in hospital black and blue on but and hip for a mounth .been 5 mounths cant hardley walk knee and leg is huge stays swollen severe pain barley can get in and out of my car .fixing to get mri from another doctor .MY SURGIN I USED WAS VERY RUDE to us said that i need to just live Can any one give advice

Thanks for response  plans were to remove rod then do a scope on knee well sense he decided to cut me across center of my knee there for the scope would not of been nessarymy  because he had my knee open .       But i found out from insu company there are being billed for a scope to . the lady asked me if your knee was open why would a scope be nessary I said i do not no maybe somebody should ask him  because i dont no why a lot of things were done   .Insu company is suppose to contact him this week  Can u please give input on scope and this situation

Hello!

The operating surgeon might have confronted issues while removing the rod. As this is more than 20 years the rod might have got stuck inside and difficult to remove.

I would suggest you to ask him to explain in detail all problems he encountered and if they are valid and you can also deal with him legally if you think there was negligence.

You need to follow up with another expert orthopedician and take the right advice. Take pain killers, rest and see that there is no infection and the healing takes place perfectly.
