swelling in foot

Please help!  I had a biopsy on my lower shin 4 weeks ago.  The biopsy came back as granuloma annular, which is benign, but....I have other problems now.  Since the day that I had the biopsy, the top of my foot and my ankle has been very swollen.  It is HUGE!  I can't wear any shoes and it is very painful.  The physician that did the biopsy says that he hopes the problem will be resolved.  My family physician says that this is a nerve issue called RSD.  I am SO confused and upset!  I don't know what to do now.  The incision has healed and has no signs of infection, so this is ruled out.  Please advise!  I am only 40 yrs old~

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello!

Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome often follows an injury, especially an injury from high velocity impacts such as those from bullets or shrapnel. It can also occur in your case after a surgery or after an injury.

Follow up with a neurologist and try to diagnose the damage which might have occurred. Watch out for local symptoms and also go for an X-ray. Physical therapy, sympathetic nerve block and medications will be useful for RSD.

Take care!

Hi! I have been diagnosed w/ RSD as well. There are several good websites on this but please know that it may be only temporary if it is RSD at all. Start taking 500 mg. of vitamin C twice a day, starting ASAP. This can help to nip it in the bud. The Dr. also may try something like Gabapentin,or Lyrica which also may be helpful.Personally, those Rx did nothing for me but I really believe vit. C has helped. I also take B12 & eat well. Don't be too upset.Like I said, this could just be temporary. Good luck to you!
