Having an ovary and fallopian tube removede

I was just recently diagnosed with several cyst on my left ovary. My GYn wants to remove ovary and fallopian tube only. However, I am 35 years old and had a tubilagation in August of  2003 and I have no desire to have any more children. I have a strong family history of ovairan and cervical cancers.I would rather my Gyno. go ahead and perform the complete hysterectomy so that I can avoid any further complications.  He says he don't want to do the full hysterectomy because of my age. Dosen't want to put me into "forced menopause"  Has anyone ever went thru this and What would any of you do in my situation?

I agree with Trudie.  At age 35 Dr. Hodel, a gyn/onc, recommended I get a total hysterctomy/oopherectomy due to strong family history.  I did not listen and took the advice of 2 other doctors.  They recommended I do not go aggressive and have the surgery.  They said I could be safely monitored with trans-vag ultra-sounds and CA125s. I was checked every 6-12 months.  My cancer was not found until in the late stages.  Then I let Dr. Hodel do the surgery.  I wish you the best and if you need a different doc to do what you want, then go for it.  Marie

Lay out the history - and then cry and beg.  It's awful that we need to do this to get what we want.  If he refuses go for a second opinion elsewhere.  Good luck.

That is what I want him to do, but I don't know how to talk him into it.

He's already in there and why take a chance.  Women at risk of breast cancer are having masectomies.  I would have the hysterectomy.
