Still-not-so-welcome News Update

First of all, I would really thank each and every lady there who has left such kind thoughts and prayers for my mother. I am back from the hospital for a quick bath, zip round the house to finish up the overflowing laundry and then back to the hospital.

The surgery went well. It is over in 1 hours and my mum is up and awake and could get off the bed one hour after the operation. The BAD news is that the doctor said that the 'lump' is likely cancerous but he is still hoping for the pathological results to prove otherwise. The hernia and not really hernia in the hernia we we understood. There is a hernia sac the size of a small apple. Some rubbery/gooey stuff forced through the hernia hole and become like a flat rubber ballon. Then somehow water makes itself to the 'rubber' and the sac swell up like a balloon. The entire sac is like a rubber ballon filled with fluid and some small traces of blood. The doctor thinks it is cancer or beginning of cancer and that the 3 tiny nodules in the CT scan may be cancer but it is too far away for him to take a peek. He said it is rare but cancer can recur in such a way. Somehow I am not hopeful for a positive outcome when the doctor starts thinking that the sac has some 'thickening' and the presence of blood (while it could be inflammation) is indicative of camcer.

I did a quick google search and apparently ovarian cancer that recur in such a way is very, very rare. According to the a 2005 report I came across, there is only 1 such documented case. The doct kept saying that it is still very early stages and the chances of containing the cancer is high....which is really not welcoming news to my mum.

I am trying very hard to stay positive but it is difficult when an extremely experienced doctor says that the 'sac' is likely to be cancerous. If my mum is lucky and the sac turned out to be benign, we still have that 3 tiny spots to worry. The only positive thing is that the reason the watery sac form is not a result of tumours pushing the interstine/fat through the hole in the abdominal muscles.

Once again, thanks for all the comforting notes and prayers all of you have left for my mum. My mum would be discharged tomorrow and it would be a nail-biting time waiting for the pathological results next week.

The year of the Ox is not starting off well for your mum but things have a way of turning around.  Let's hope she regains her strength enough to tackle this set back and enjoy the rest of this year!
