Update on 2009 Get-Together

Hi Ladies,

What would you all think about going big this year?  I spoke with Chris today and discussed the possibility of getting together in September since it is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.  She suggested going to a city that celebrates the month with different events around the city - some place like Boston.  Ovations for the Cure is based there, and sponsors many events.  Last year, they even put teal lights on one of the city's bridges.  We might be able to get in touch with the people who operate that organization and see what they can suggest for us.  This would be a trip that involves people from a couple of other Ovarian Cancer groups, too. Of course we don't have a lot of details yet, but before we move forward, it would be nice to get your opinions on whether you'd like to do something like that or not.  I realize that might be cost prohibative to some, and we certainly understand that.  So, if you have any other ideas, please share them!

Unfortunately, Nashville in June is not going to be a possibility...at least for reasons of visiting with Jan.  We received word today that after next week, Jan is likely not going to be able to receive visitors.  I think we were all rather shocked to hear earlier this week that things are progressing fairly quickly with her, and waiting until June won't work.  It breaks my heart, and I know it does for all of you, too.

So, tell us what you think about Boston.  Would you be interested in pursuing that?  Would you be interested in planning another weekend gathering earlier in the summer so folks with kids would come?  Would you want to do both?  If you want a summer weekend, where would you want to go, and when?  How about we try to make a decision within the next two weeks so there's time to work on getting it set up.  No idea or opinion is a bad one, so time to start brain storming!

Thanks,
Gail

It warms my heart to see that so many of you would be interested in going to Boston this year. I had not said anything because I was not sure of the response. But if you think that it would be a good idea, I will jump in and see what we can get going.
I think a bigger city that actually gets involved with ovca would be perfect as I have always said, the bigger the better.
Most of you know how to get hold of me so if you have suggestions or comments feel free to let me or Gail know. I am going to need help this year due to the chemo really dragging me down. And here is a hint as far a travel goes" if you are able to travel by Amtrak, it would be much cheaper for those of us on a tighter budget.
TC is coming to visit me next week and maybe we can get our butts in gear and get this off of the ground. I am really excited that so many of you are interested and in thinking I would like for this years theme to include a tribute to Jan.
So in the week coming up I will get together wil Gail and anyone else who would like to be involved and get my fingers rolling on the e-mails.
  Love you all,
     Chris

Both NYC or Boston sounds good to me. I WILL BE THERE if it does not fall on our honeymoon. We are planning our honeymoon in Sept, but don't have set dates yet. I really want to make it to this get together, so please keep me updated on the dates.

For us Ontario Gals, it's about a 9 hour drive to Boston or, you can fly out of Buffalo for under $100 (It's almost three times that price if you fly out of Toronto).
I hope we can make this work...Spetember is a better month, I think, but so many of us are involved with our own individual walks - hopefully, we can work around them all.
I really hope this can come together...

To all-

We are having our walk on Sat, Sept 26th, here in New York....The park is Eisenhower Park, in East Meadow Long Island, about 45 minutes east of Manhattan.  It will be our 3rd Annual Walk/Picnic.  The proceeds raised go to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition.

Would love to have everyone!!!!!  We could have our own tent at the walk dedicated just to the gang from MedHelp!!!  Have our own "MedHelp Group" Picture taken.

I doubt that I can make it this summer, but, depending on when and where in Sept, I will do my best!

Love,
Pam

I like the Boston idea for all the reasons you point out.  It's almost unfathomable that Jan will not be there, though.

Thank you!

September in Boston sounds good  I think this gives us a much easier time to plan and arrange for time off for those who need it.  I was so hoping Jan could make it to another gathering.  There will be such a hole in our group without her.

Boston works for me...I'll try to be there, no matter where it is! My only request is that it not be the weekend of the 27th because that's my walk weekend here in Barrie and it means a lot to me to be involved with it. Of course, if that's the weekend that would work for everyone else, then by all means, plan away!

That's awful about Jan...I feel like my heart is on the verge of breaking for her. I was so hoping to meet her this year...

Thanks Gail,
Becky xx

Although I cannot commit this early, I saw that on the Ovations web as well and thought it would be nice to be part of their walk this fall.  Another organization is the NOCC (National Ovarian Cancer Coalition) that also has several walks taking place in different areas in Sept.  Their Boston chapter is having a walk in Sept, but that date has not been established as of yet.  I will keep checking both websites for updates and between you, chris, me and anyone else, will follow up on this.

It's too soon to coordinate many that would be interested for the NOCC Chicago walk this year (the walk is on May 2nd), but God willing, I would be interested in helping with the organization for the Chicago walk next year.  NOTE: those nearby the Chicago area can still sign up for as individuals for the May walk on the NOCC web.  If I'm lucky enough to get 10 friends/family to set up a team for this year, I will let you all know and you can join our team or at least, we can meet.
