Anybody ever been on Megace....progesterone?

I have had the oophorectomy and now the pathology from DC came back as complex hyperplasia with no atypia, but concerning enough that my surgeon wants me on a 3-6 month course of Megace (progesterone) and then  most likely do a hysteroscopy to see if the Megace wiped out the hyperplasia.  I was soooo hoping to be over this ****, but now this.  I am extremely thankful the pathology came back negative on the ovaries...but I was thinking I was over this and just needed to get used to the estrogen/progesterone replacement...now I have to stop the estrogen and deal with this uterine ****.  Probably should have just had the hysterectomy.  So any feedback on what to expect from Megace?

I am on my (daughter's refirbished) laptop and so I am not as comfortable typing... thus an abrieviated answer (for me :))

I would do more research regarding this treatment. I googled the following:

***Megace Progesterone Progestin***

and also:

****natural or bioidentical progesterone to treat uterine hyperplasia vs Megace****

Megace is not a Progesterone in the true sense of the word (which is one reason Progesterone itself ALWAYS gets a bad rap).

It is a Progestin, a synthetic drug made to act like Progesterone, but is not identical to what the body would normally produce. I had not heard much about this until I saw your post so I was curious about it. Would the doctor consider a Bioidentical Progesterone in an oral prep (my understanding is that the oral prep would be able to deliver the progesterone better for your individual situation rather than use the cream which is preferred by many)....Progmetrium is an oral bio progesterone.

If you are able to avoid a hysterectomy, in my opinion, all the better. But, (also my opinion) I personally would be leery of synthetic progesterone. I am not a doctor.... so, I hope you hear me in that the script the doc has in mind for you may be your only way to solve the issue (or at least try) but again, I would look at alllllll options. You may be told that you could use either type (bio or synthetic) and that there is no difference between the two, but I would strongly beg to differ.

I have no idea what the doctor will say, but I would encourage you to do some research on this so you can ask about options.

My best to you,

Mary
