D&C and endrometrial abalation

I had a consultation with gyn. about my ultrasound results.  She said the overian cysts are simple and small, the fibroid is lower and in the center (it is about 1 inch in size). She is mostly concerened about the endometriosis. She wants me to take progeterone until the end of this month and then schedule a D&C and an endometrial abalation. Any thoughts on these procedures? Does this sound right?

I think the dr. only wants me to take progesterone this one time so I will maybe have a period. I don't understand exactly why, but she wants me to have a period, then call and set up the D&C and endometrial abalation.  I figured it had something to do w/the surgery. I don't believe I will be taking progeterone after the surgery. She said to call her at the end of the month after my period to schedule everything. If she insists I stay on it, I will check into it. I see no need for it after surgery. It was perscribed for heavy bleeding. that shouldn't be a problem after the surgery. Thank you all for your comments.
I love Beagles, too. Mine is Pacie. (spoiled rotten)

Hi Karen,

I wanted to copy and paste the information I gave Jonzbeach regarding Bioidentical Progesterone vs. Synthetic Progesterone ....In that case, Jonz was asking about Megace.... Now, I don't know much about how Progesterone is used in women NOT in Menopause since I only have studied it with regards to how helpful it is in Peri- and Post- menopausal women. But, since every time I research this stuff, it jumps out at me that there are better alternatives than Synthetic Progesterone, but then, I am not a doctor.. I do not know if this is something that could be substituted (But I strongly suspect it could.... anyway, here is the info I copied from the post to Jonz....

Megace is not a Progesterone in the true sense of the word (which is one reason Progesterone itself ALWAYS gets a bad rap).

It is a Progestin, a synthetic drug made to act like Progesterone, but is not identical to what the body would normally produce. I had not heard much about this until I saw your post so I was curious about it. Would the doctor consider a Bioidentical Progesterone in an oral prep (my understanding is that the oral prep would be able to deliver the progesterone better for your individual situation rather than use the cream which is preferred by many)....Progmetrium is an oral bio progesterone.

If you are able to avoid a hysterectomy, in my opinion, all the better. But, (also my opinion) I personally would be leery of synthetic progesterone. I am not a doctor.... so, I hope you hear me in that the script the doc has in mind for you may be your only way to solve the issue (or at least try) but again, I would look at alllllll options. You may be told that you could use either type (bio or synthetic) and that there is no difference between the two, but I would strongly beg to differ.

I have no idea what the doctor will say, but I would encourage you to do some research on this so you can ask about options.

Again in this case, there was a concern about Hyperplasia...

Just some things to think about regarding Bioidentical vs. synthetic.

I am glad you got some answers today, though...

OH, and I love your Beagle....We had a Beagle growing up... Bootsy!

My friend had the Endometrial ablation and said it was the best thing she could have done.

I was hoping someone would come along and help you with your question. Maybe if it gets back up to the top.  I have had a D&C and it was fairly minimal, little if no pain and quick recovery. My girlfriend had an endometrail ablation for heaving bleeding and she is so happy that she did. Not too bad a recovery, I believe it was in and out procedure, she is very glad she did it.
Hope someone comes along more knowledgeable for you!
