Ovarian Cyst

My 11 yr. old granddaughter was admitted into the hospital today. She's been experiencing severe abdominal pain, on a scale from 1-10 her's was a 10. She had ultrasound done and results show a very large fluid filled cyst in her left ovary, as well as one that burst in her right ovary. She was started on a IV with morphine. Unfortunately, the morphine didn't help with her pain. Therefore, another medicine was added. Her pain level now, is about a 3. Why at 11 yrs. old would she be having these cyst?

Thank you for the response. My granddaughter was left with no other option, but to have laparoscopy surgery to drain the 8 cm. cyst in her left ovary and remove her left fallopian tube, due to it being twisted 4 times. She's now recovered and doing well. Sad, that she had to experience such at 11 yrs. old.

I was wondering if this would prevent her in being able to have children, when she's older?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
Ovarian cysts can be found in teenagers or adolescents. If a cyst ruptures, sometimes it may be treated with pain medicine until the body absorbs the fluid from the cyst. If a ruptured cyst is bleeding, you may need surgery to stop the bleeding. So get it evaluated from a gynecologist as she may need surgery.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
