can an ovarian cyst, or swollen fallopian tube cause pain?

Well as stated before, I have a 12cm mass on either my ovary or it has been said it could be fluid in my fallopian tube as well as fluid in my pelvic area...I have no uterus, had that removed last august.  Scheduled for surgery 8-9-05.  I saw the oncologist and he sent in his assistant to see me first.  She and I talked a bit and when I told her I had alot of pain when I get up from sitting and most of the time I stay bent over til the pain subsides and it strtches out.  She said that there is no way that it should cause me pain, that it must be something
else going on with my hip.  I felt like they were both brushing me off. Understand, I am a heavy set woman, I wear a size 24, I do take care of myself, well groomed and I am a professional..also a survivor of incest abuse, so unfortunetly the weight is still a result of the many years I endured the abuse. I am so sick of people judging you by your weight.  I guess alot of these doctors figure we fat people do not care about our bodies cause we keep stuffing our pie holes...I do eat...I eat my emotions...Everyday I wake up and I hate my body and I am self conscious about my weight and miss so many fun things because I don't want to be embarrassed...I feel shame.  So these doctors are supposedly well educated and we are to trust them with our lives and we give them respect, but they don't want to give back..not all of them but there are alot of them out there that are prejudice against fat people, the color of your skin, your religon, where you live. Has anyone been thru this? can u feel pain from cyst?

I spent the last few years being told there was nothing wrong with me, it was all in my head. The weight gain, the pain, the exhaustion from dealing with the pain.  Spending 50% of my life on my period.  They did tests found nothing conclusive my cortisol and DHEA  (stress hormones that tell your body to store fat) were extremely high.  I just had a hysterectomy 2weeks ago and there were cysts in my Fallopian tubes and they said I had adenomyosis.  Apparently it's only positively identified post hysterectomy.  It was found accidentally after I requested a hysterectomy to end the excessive menses I was having.  I knew I wasn't crazy, feeling very vindicated.  Don't let your doctor ignore your concerns,  if they won't listen to you, find someone who will.  By the way, I didn't even need to take my Norco after surgery, the pain from surgery was less than the pain I had been dealing with for years.

I went into the local Emergency room 2 days ago for horrible right lower abdominal pain...totally convinced I had appendicitis.  Several rounds of morphine and tests later , I had an elevated white blood cell count and a very confusing CT scan result.  It showed fluid in my right tube and it was blown up like a sausage.  The doc wasn't sure about ovarian involvement at that point, but the appendix was normal.  I was set up for urgent laproscopic surgery that night to investigate and remove the offending structure(s). The uterus was already out from a previous partial hysterectomy.  Wow!  you know, the ovary and tube were a big swollen purple mass, all tangled up.  Needless to say, I'm down to one ovary and tube.  No early menopause for me at this point. Thank GOD!  I FELT GREAT  after waking up in recovery,  Very minor pain, and went home after lunch that day.  What a Christmas Gift..at least I got to go home.

I am so sorry that you have to hear that...that was just plain rude.  Have you asked for a complete hormone profile?  also ask them to test you for insulin resistance...it is different from your typical glucose test.  Mine always came back on the border, but my gyn did this further testing and it came back high..so in other words, everything i eat is literally turning into fat becase my body is not using the insulin properly.  My doctor has put me on glucophage 2000 mg a day...so i AM ANXIOUS TO SEE IF THIS HELPS!!!  I am sure you are like me...you don't eat much either and you can just look at a piece of cake and gain a pound!!  Hang in there Pearl...you are a pearl in Gods eye..The bible says we are the apple of His eye...remember everyone will be held accountable for their actions, so forgive them and say a prayer for them.  Everyone reaps what they sow..God Bless you!

I so understand the predjudise from the medical community. I am a size 24 and have attempted dieting so many times, I did loose weight then when I ate normal I gained it back plus more.Just yesterday when I had my sonogram I could over hear my tech laughing with the other techs about she is soo big. I have learned to dismiss there rude comments but deap down it still hurts. My Dr. calls her practice prevention medical clinic as if to imply we create our own health problems. She is rail thin
and when I present a complaint she tends to blaim my weight. I think Dr.s and the medical community need to attend patient sensitivity training!!

The last few days before my surgery last December, I was in so much pain from my cyst that I would have consented to having surgery in the parking lot, complete with an audience, just to end the pain!  My cyst, which turned out to be a benign endometrioma,  was so large (the size of a grapefruit) that it had badly damaged my ovary and stretched my fallopian tube to the width of my arm.

Yes, I know what you mean about the "obese" thing.  I get it too, but I wear  sizes 14 to 16!  We live in a sick society that worships people who are so thin they look terminally ill, and that ignores or insults those of us who do not fit in that "thin" category.

Thank you Chelan for your support!  Yea they always want to contribute everything to the weight.  I am working hard at getting to the root of the problem, not the symptom.    Thank you and God Bless!

You know, the bible says that in the last days, men will become lovers of themselves.  Does everyone see that happening around them??? It seems like people are driven by money and what new thing can they get for themselves to make their life better.  They are so far into debt they probally can't sleep at night due to worry and strategizing.  I'm glad that is not me, but yet, us poor folk have to depend upon them to help us!  I trust that God will put me where I need to go.  Jules777, trust God..I did not start healing until I gave my life to Christ and I FORGAVE my brother for the YEARS of sexual and physical abuse he did to me. It was not easy to do...but once I did, emotional healing flooded in.  I still have issues!!! Obviously weight is one of them, but I am alot better now than where I used to be.  I slept with anything and everything, drugs, alcohol it did not matter.  I am 40, (tomorrow) Happily married and 3 kids and a christian loving and serving the Lord.  I have more fun now then I did back then!  Hang in there.  If you ever wanna talk..e-mail me.  Thanks everyone for your input I really appreciate this website!!! ***@****

Your post made me cry. Everything you said is so true.
I may not be a size 24, but on many of my doctors notes/copies, I have seen "a slightly obese female" presents with such and such.
Being dismissed is soooo common with over-weight people.
It makes me so angry and I hate myself more and more.
My abuser/rapist served 6 months. I received a life sentence emotionally and mentally and therapy off and on for the last 25 years. My chiropractor believes that even my ovarian cysts are direct results of being raped...psychosomatic based.
When are people/doctors going to realize that being overweight is a self protection mechanism for many of us?
Just as washing your hands, wearing a seatbelt or taking antibiotics, etc., can be determined.

When I was diagnosed with this last left sided ovarian cyst 4 years ago, I actually had horrible unrelenting right sided pain. The only reason they did the ultrasound was to rule out appendicitis.
So yes, you can MOST definetly feel the pain. And yes, the pain can be localized or distant, constant or inconsistant...

Best wishes!!

Hi, you can have referred pain from a cyst.  I had severe back pain.  I know what you mean about being a large women and having your symptoms brushed off - I'm the same size as you.  My first time I mentioned my symptoms to my dr he sent me to the dietician - I already eat a balanced diet which I told him. I had to insist something else was wrong.  It's very frustrating.
I know it's tough but try and take it easy before your surgery and try not to get too worked up.  I also know from experience it does you no good too get worked up.  You're seeing a specialist for your surgery which is good and you know when to ask questions.
Good luck with your surgery and please let us know how you make out.

I have had ovarian cysts for the last 25 years and sometimes the pain has been so bad ive have ended up in the meregency room. The pain can vary from the tightening/pulling feeling when you stand up or even rool over to feeling like a sword is being pushed thru your center.  I work in an operating room, please dont let them brush off the pain, find someone who will listen
