long haul flight following laparoscopic cystectomy?

I was wondering if it would be OK to get on a long haul flight (8 hours) 5 days after laparoscopic surgery to remove ovarian cysts (both sides..one 4cm one 7cm..).  I know there is a risk that one the doctor gets a look inside that he might need to cut me open (I've been using the terms 'open gut surgery' and 'the keyhole thingy' as they are easier to spell).  I live in a country where medical facilities are very basic and will need to travel to Bangkok for the surgery.  I was planning a trip back to Australia afterwards and am wondering if this is a good idea?  Cheers J

One post-op risk is a dangerous blood clot.  Being immobile on a long flight increases that risk.  Mention your travel plans to your surgeon. It is possible you might be put on blood thinners for a short term if the doctor thinks you need it.

I think that you will be feeling not too badly after 5 days, but will still be quite sore. I had a large cyst removed laparascopically as well and was very sore for at least the first 3-4 days and took a few weeks to feel completely back to normal. Hope this helps!
