5 HERNIATED DISCS - PLEASE HELP

I HAVE BEEN LIVING WITH CHRONIC PAIN FOR 10 YEARS NOW.  I WAS REAR ENDED TWICE IN AN 8 MONTH PERIOD.  I  HAVE BEEN TO EVERY DOCTOR KNOWN TO MAN, HAD MRI'S WHICH CONFIRMED 3 HERNIATED DISCS IN MY NECK AND 2 IN MY BACK.  NO ONE HAS SUGGESTED SURGERY WHICH IS FINE WITH  ME.

OVER THE YEARS I HAVE BEEN ON VICODIN, PERCOCET, MS CONTIN........ETC. I BECAME VERY ADDICTED TO THESE MEDICATIONS AND WENT TO A TREATMENT FACILITY A FEW MONTHS AGO TO DETOX OFF OF EVERYTHING.  THEY USED SUBUXONE TO WEAN ME OFF.

I CAN BARELY FUNCTION - HAVE TRIED MOTRIN, MUSCLE RELAXERS, TYLENOL WHICH DO NOTHING.  I HAVE BEEN SLOWLY STRETCHING AND EXERCISING BUT THIS IS EXCRUCIATING FOR ME.  I HAD TO GO ON DISABILITY 3 YEARS AGO WHICH IS VERY FRUSTRATING AS I HAD BEEN IN SALES FOR 25 YEARS.  I WANT TO WORK AND HAVE A NORMAL LIFE AGAIN!!!  I USED TO SWING DANCE, WORK OUT 4 TIMES A WEEK AND HAD A SOCIAL LIFE.  I AM 51 AND HAVE NO LIFE BECAUSE IF I STAND OR SIT FOR MORE THAN 20 MINUTES I BEGIN TO SHAKE FROM THE PAIN.

I AM WONDERING IF SUBUXONE WORKS FOR PAIN.  I KNOW IT TAKES AWAY ALL CRAVINGS FOR NARCOTICS WHICH I STILL CRAVE BUT HAVE NOT TOUCHED ANYTHING SINCE GOING THROUGH DETOX.  I HAVE SEARCHED THE WEB BUT NO ONE TALKS ABOUT USING SUBUXONE FOR PAIN RELIEF.  CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME IF IT WILL HELP?

THANK YOU,
PAM

Transdermal buprenorphine is available in Europe for the treatment of moderate to severe chronic pain.
In the population studied, buprenorphine TDS provided adequate pain relief, as well as improvements in pain intensity and duration of pain-free sleep. It may be considered a therapeutic option for the treatment of moderate to severe chronic pain.

I have found that there are many clinics using it as a drug for chronic pain and also many studies backing up it's use for pain control. Here is some articles.....

Hi Pam

Welcome and congradualtions on taking the steps you needed to get off all the medications you are addicted to. Cant be easy having such severe pain, but you sound like your doing really great. I admire your strength.

I am sorry you havent found anything yet thats non-narcotic that will help the pain.
They have used Subuxone to treat Chronic Pain. I myself have never been on it and have heard mixed reactions as to it's use.
The reason I think it is used to treat CP is beacause it doesnt create that "high" that other opioids can cause. Also although someone can overdose by taking too much like anything else, taking more than prescribed does not lead to that "high" feeling because the extra medication does not attach to the reseptors responsible for causing that feeling(mu reseptors, I think)
But with that said it can still cause withdrawls and be addicting.  But so is methadone so it's really up to the DR and patient to decide if using it is right for them.
I do know that they have used it in people who have experienced Substance abuse issues that have Chronic Pain also and they have done well on it.
Make sure you find a DR who understands CP also so they can make a Chronic Pain treatment plan for you so you have all available non-narcotic options to you, to make sure the pain is controlled properly. I think a DR needs a special certification to prescribe it.

But as I said, I have never been on it and dont know too much about it.
I'm sure someone who knows more about using it for pain will be along to share there knowlege or experience with you.

I hope your able to find something to help you treat the pain. Keep hanging in there!

TMA
