What date was the opinion stated by Dr. Wolfe in the article that you read?  I found this:

Acupuncture Today
February, 2000, Vol. 01, Issue 02
The End of Fibromyalgia? A View from the Defense
By Della Welch
In part it says...
".......Currently, Dr. Frederick Wolfe, the chair of the American Rheumatological Committee, has stated that he no longer thinks of fibromyalgia as a disease, but only as a "clinical term" (Wolfe 1997).

In these earlier years the jury was still out and I am sure there are still physicians that are not convinced of these conditions. I have no comment about Wolfe's opinion other than it is just that, his opinion. He is probably a great physician but that does not change the fact that it is his opinion.

My own and very compassionate and excellent PCP told me that though she beleive in Fibro however she believes more that in SOME cases the physician just cannot find the answer to the symptoms therefore the patient is labeled with Fibro or something similar.

The general consensus is that those conditions do exist, there will always be some naysayers. When you research this you should take the majority of the information as closer to the truth than the one or two renegades that differ. If the physician you see says, "I don't beleive in Fibro or these similar conditions, run, don;t walk from that office. There are thousands of ppl (or more)  that will disagree with that statement.

Please keep in touch. I will watch for your continued updates. It's late and I will sign off for now but will check back with you later.

Hang in there and have faith.

thnks a lot for your reply Tuckamore!!

Actually my next appointment is gng to be with rheumatologist...bt frm the diagnosis i have recieved till now from the doctors, i tried to get an idea myself of wht might be wrong and after reading abt most of the illnesses realted to pains, i came to a conclusion tht i might have fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, myofascial pain syndrome or muscular rheumatism... I am in no way an expert bt, I just looked over the symptoms tht all these illnesses have and thn compared to my condition and i found tht the symptoms for all these problems sort to co-incide for me whn co-related to certain parts of the body...

More over i found a higher connection of my pain problem with fibromyalgia and Myofascial Pain Syndrome (which i guess is a part of chronic fatigue syndrome, if i m not wrong)...

I also tried to find treatments for these problems and found tht, my pains hv no origin and thy start anytime and go away anytime without any sensible explanation...so i thought may b cognitive behaviour therapy, graded exercise therapy or therapy for nociceptive system might help...

bt i m so much confused right now...i found these two paragraphs frm wikipedia which sort of confuses me more...

'' As with many other medically unexplained syndrome, there is no known cure or universally accepted treatment for fibromyalgia, and treatment is typically aimed at symptom management. Developments in the understanding of the pathophysiology of the disorder have led to improvements in treatment, which include prescription medication, behavioral intervention, exercise, and alternative and complementary medicine. Indeed, integrated treatment plans that incorporate medication, patient education, aerobic exercise and cognitive-behavioral therapy have been shown to be effective in alleviating pain and other fibromyalgia-related symptoms.''

'' Wolfe now questions the validity of fibromyalgia as a disease. He considers fibromyalgia a physical response to stress, depression, and economic and social anxiety, and believes the associated symptoms are a normal part of everyday life. In 2009, he wrote, "the tendency to respond with distress to physical and mental stressors is part of the human condition. Wolfe and other opponents of the fibromyalgia concept say that labeling fibromyalgia as a "disease" simply legitimizes patients’ sickness behavior, slowing their recovery and harming them...''

I hope this is not too much at one time...bt i m fed up of these ghostly pains and i want to get rid of them once and for all...

i hope i wl get the advice that i have expected from MedHelp and i also hope that i can put more light to this pain problem by giving as much information as i can...

looking forward to your replies!!

Hello FeelFrozen,

Welcome to the Pain Management Forum. I am sorry to hear about your pain issues, especially because you are so young.

Generalized body aches and pains can be from many sources such as Vitamin deficiencies to Fibromyalgia to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome of Myofascial Pain Syndrome.

Have you had all your vitamin and mineral levels checked recently, particularly Vit D & Vit B12? Have you seen a rheumatologist?  If not that would be my next course of action. When my Vitamin levels get low I now know the signs and symptoms. One of them is generalized discomfort and the other is severe major muscle spasms. Everyone is different including their symptoms.

Our members may have other thoughts but these are the ones that come to mind. I hope you will keep in touch with us and let us know how you are doing. I'll look forward to your updates with interest.

Take Care,
Tuck
