Oxycontin

I have been prescibed 80mg oxycontin 2 X daily. It seemed like the miracle drug. I've been taking it for almost 2 yrs With the recent change in the fillers, it doesn't seem to work as well, or last as long. Also I have been breaking out in small blisters on my hands. My stomach also seems to be more upset than usual. I've been told that they didn't change the active ingredients. Could it be possible that I'm having an allergic reaction to the new fillers in the medication?

I am going to assume you take as you are suppose to.  I do, and I have ran into similar issues. With my stomach, I feel like I have a ball in it.  Also I'v gotten a headache from it.  I know the paraffin they used is the same but what ever is suppose to turn it to jelly and make it harder is whats doing it.  I went as far as calling perdue about it, and they wont say what it is that makes it hard and gel up.  This is to prevent the crushing and stuff.  It is different.  I also noticed it seem that it isnt quite as strong.  I had a prior test for blood levels, and I'm going to see if they will do another with the change to see if they are the same or close.  Im not happy, but I cant take anything else.  Or I should say I wont because of reactions or side effects.  IF you come up with what is going on fill me in because i would like to know. It seems we should be able to get all the info on what we are taking right?  What is sad about it, is if we bring it up everyone thinks its because we were misusing the old ones. AHHHAHHHAHH.  the turmoil continues. Why cant we just get relief without the BS>

Hello Jusjames,

Welcome to the Pain Management Forum.

I have heard the same complaints by other users as you can see above. I have just started on the med and therefore am not a good judge. I have heard that it is the substance that makes it gel up that seems to make the difference for some ppl.

I don't know if it would help but you might want to discuss this possibility of changing you doses to three times a day instead of twice. 160 does not divided equally by three but you may be able to take a higher dose in the AM or PM, which ever seems more painful for you. I take mine three times a day instead of twice but I am on a much smaller dose. Adding that third dose made a huge difference in my pain control. Again I don't know if it will help but it might be worth a try.

Please let us know if you discover anymore than we have talked about and if you are able to find a solution. I wish you the very best.

Peace,
~Tuck

I had a lot of nausea for a few weeks in the beginning, but it has been much better recently. As far as effectiveness, I'm okay with it now.

Many people seem to be having difficulty with the new fillers. Tuck has great advice!

Hugs,

Flower

Hi there, I am presently on 70 mg 2x day for my extreme back paiin, from numerous problems. I have herniated disc, degen. disc disease and other things, all together amounting in intolerable pain for the most part. I get a little better and try to come down on the meds and then get worse if i do something wrong and need to go up. I feel so guilty about taking this narcotic and even guiltier that sometimes I get a pleasant sensation from it. Everyone is on me to get off it. But its the only thing that works. I have a husband and 5 children to take care off. My psych. said it i was to take the drug for a certain amount of years, i would never be able to come off it. He is also a pain specialist as well, but does not tell me to get off it, just to take as prescribed, which i do. What should i do, I would like suggestions from everyone. This pain will be with me I am afraid for the rest of my life but at varying degrees and my goal is of course to get off this miracle medicine, but that is so addictive and causes so many issue when you do finally come off. I have gotten down to 50 mg and it wasnt too hard doing 10mg at a time. But i need some info and replies to what i have written. It does help me to become more avaiilable to my family and I can walk with a cane with it. Thanks and love and peace to all my friends, Jaxcy...xoxo
