I'm hoping some of you will know what this is? Or maybe Tuck, with your extensive medical background, or Sandee you may have heard of this before. I'm seeing my GI doctor tomorrow the one that did both my surgeries and I've noticed that since he did the surgeries I've been having these strange pain episodes in my belly. It's like a huge charley horse cramp that hurts really bad, and you can't stop it, and also like a food growl in it. It really is distracting and you have to breathe through the pain. I have never had it before UNTIL I had the new GI doctor operate on me twice. It hurts very badly and I have no idea what it is. I'm not sure if it's some sort of muscle contracting or if it's the hernia, or just what exactly what's going on, but you know I will ask for sure what this pain is all about. I'm having this pain on a daily basis, I never know when it's going to come up, nothing seems to bring it on, it just happens and then it brings me to tears until it stops. It then stops and my stomach goes back to normal. Anyone ever hear of this?
I am sorry that you are experiencing even more painful symptoms. If this wasn't an issues until your surgery can it be that you have developed adhesions?
Adhesions are sheets of tissue that form after surgery and bind organs and tissues together...that chouldn't be bonded. They are believed to cause abdominal and/or pelvic pain because of this binding or tying of organs and tissues. It can also causes nerve entrapment and/or irritation. Nerves can actually become entrapped within an adhesion...which obviously causes even more pain. Lysis can often add more adhesions though with the use of new barriers some adhesions are being avoided.
Surgeons don't always give a lot of credence to adhesion pain. Lysis (removal) of adhesions has been considered futile and every difficult. It can become a vicious cycle. I cannot say that this is the reason you are having bouts of pain. It may be entirely unrelated. It's only one possibility. I hope you will discuss it with your physician. He will have a much better idea of what cold be causing your pain.
Please let us know how your appointment turns out. I'll be watching for your post.
My Best Wishes and Good Luck,
~Tuck
