Appointment with GI doctor tomorrow been experiencing weird pain

I'm hoping some of you will know what this is? Or maybe Tuck, with your extensive medical background, or Sandee you may have heard of this before.  I'm seeing my GI doctor tomorrow the one that did both my surgeries and I've noticed that since he did the surgeries I've been having these strange pain episodes in my belly.  It's like a huge charley horse cramp that hurts really bad, and you can't stop it, and also like a food growl in it.  It really is distracting and you have to breathe through the pain.  I have never had it before UNTIL I had the new GI doctor operate on me twice.  It hurts very badly and I have no idea what it is.  I'm not sure if it's some sort of muscle contracting or if it's the hernia, or just what exactly what's going on, but you know I will ask for sure what this pain is all about.  I'm having this pain on a daily basis, I never know when it's going to come up, nothing seems to bring it on, it just happens and then it brings me to tears until it stops.  It then stops and my stomach goes back to normal.  Anyone ever hear of this?

Hi Designgyrl,

I am sorry that you are experiencing even more painful symptoms. If this wasn't an issues until your surgery can it be that you have developed adhesions?

Adhesions are sheets of tissue that form after surgery and bind organs and tissues together...that chouldn't be bonded. They are believed to cause abdominal and/or pelvic pain because of this binding or tying of organs and tissues. It can also causes nerve entrapment and/or irritation. Nerves can actually become entrapped within an adhesion...which obviously causes even more pain. Lysis can often add more adhesions though with the use of new barriers some adhesions are being avoided.

Surgeons don't always give a lot of credence to adhesion pain. Lysis (removal) of adhesions has been considered futile and every difficult. It can become a vicious cycle. I cannot say that this is the reason you are having bouts of pain. It may be entirely unrelated. It's only one possibility. I hope you will discuss it with your physician. He will have a much better idea of what cold be causing your pain.

Please let us know how your appointment turns out. I'll be watching for your post.

My Best Wishes and Good Luck,
~Tuck

Sweetie,

Just tell him EXACTLY what you just said here.  How it feels as if it is STRANGLING your stomach. That was PERFECT!!  I felt as if I was feeling EXACTLY what you were talking about. It made MY stomach hurt!!

This could very well be adhesion - BUT I sure hope that there will be a simpler answer BUT I'm VERY concerned.  I know that you've heard Sara talk about her adhesions and how TERRIBLY painful they are.  :(    Hoping for a different answer for you!!!

IF these are feeling like an adhesion BUT worse then TELL him that - EXACTLY that.  Just say that it feels like your adhesions did the last time BUT 1,000 times worse!!! That should get the message across!!!

I'm rooting for a muscle spasm as Jaded said as that seems like they could fix that MUCH simpler than an adhesion.   Does it feel like a muscle spasm at all?

Love you......Mama Sherry

I don't know what adhesions feel like.  It kinda sounds like a muscle spasm to me.  When I have really bad muscle spasms it feels like someone grabbing the muscle and squeezing as hard as they can.
I would just explain to the surgeon the way you have to us.  I don't think it sounds stupid at all.  I've never had bad pain in my stomach or had surgery so I am not much help other than that.

Nannam, and Tuck.  It started right after I had the second surgery. I have never felt antything like it before.  It feels like a huge stomach cramp and my whole abdomen gets into some increible pain and feels like it's twisting and will not let go.  It hurts really bad and can't catch my breath when this happens and I ty to rub my stomach but that doesn't really help much.  It's almost like a strangling feeling in your stomach. I have had adhesions before and they are incredibly painful ad I'm unsre what this is because I've just never had anythibng like this happen before.  I was hoping the two medical goddesses would know what it may be and how do I explain to the surgeon what I'm feeling so I don't sountd stupid or that I dont' just ignore it and move on.  I'm pretty sure he needs to give me some sort of medication, but I'm not sure what.   I hope he can figure it out.  One less thang to worry bourt

Hi Sweetie,

As I said in my PM to you I'm VERY concerned about your PAIN!!  I think your idea of taking a break in your work week is an EXCELLENT Plan!!  That should help give you JUST enough of a break that it will allow you to control your pain better (I HOPE :)  ).

I'm going to be looking forward to hearing from you after you have been to your Doctor. I'll be waiting with Tuck for that UPDATE!!  Understood - Young Lady??  GOOD!!!

I hope that you can find a different med that will help you just as much without the HORRENDOUS cost that this is causing your BUDGET!!! I CERTAINLY wouldn't be able to afford that much money either. ESPECIALLY for just 2 weeks worth!!

Karen - Does your Sister have visiting hours on Sunday or is she too new a patient and they don't allow it?  Have you been able to get hold of ANYONE at the Hospital at all to find out what's going on yet?

You KNOW that I'm here for you and thinking about you and Keeping BOTH you and your Sister in my PRAYERS!!  :)

Sending you Love and ((((HUGS!!)))).......Mama Sherry

PS I wanted you to know that the reason I referred to you as the "Big Sister" (I KNOW that YOU are the BABY of the family) was because I THINK of you as the "Big Sister" BECAUSE you keep the ENTIRE family together Single-handedly!!
