I have had the experience of looking on line to find a pain management doctor and it has paid off for me. I read the reviews and check any information I can find out about the treating doctor. My latest pain management doctor has been a wonder...wonder why I did not find him sooner.
He takes me right in, no waiting time, no paperwork to fill out. I tell him my pain issues (I have given him a copy of my medical treatments to date) and ask for a shot, not medication. Usually shots help me.
This doctor LISTENS, treats, and I am out of there in less than 45 minutes.
This took some research. The first pain management doctor I found wanted a referral so I called my family doctor to ask for a referral which he did. This pm doctors office came back with questions to my doctor that only I could answer (insurance information, treating facilities I had been to etc...) After frustration with this doctor I researched another pm doctor and found the doctor in wonder.
The research was worth the time. I now have a doctor I have confidence in and treats, listens, reads patients information and does not push for drugs.
After two treatments already, I have sent this doctor a THANK YOU note, letting him know how much I appreciate what he has done for me. It's nice to have a little confidence in a treating doctor that cares.

Your primary care doctor should be able to refer you to a specialist in pain management, or even treat you him/herself. Primary care doctors treating their patients for pain is beginning to become rarer and rarer, although some refer their patients just to get a recommendation on what medications and dosages to prescribe, and then write those prescriptions every month, or as needed. Sometimes just searching online is the only way to find doctor's names in your area. then it's just a matter of finding one that you like, and is knowledgeable in your particular problems. Good luck in finding a doctor willing to help you.

My suggestion would be to call your local hospital and ask for their physician referral service. You will be able to obtain a list of doctors that way. You will need to call each one to see if they accept your insurance. Best of luck to you!
