Dull pain in upper right of ribcage, with no other symptoms

Hi,

I am a 24 year old female. For the past week I've felt a dull, achy pain on the upper right side of my ribcage, right below the right breast. It doesn't hurt too much unless I'm changing positions when sleeping. I don't have any fever, vomiting, diarrhea, indigestion, heartburn or any similar symptoms.  I have no problems after eating fatty foods or dairy products. I can stand and sit without any problems. I have no cramps, no back pain, no swelling,

I'm not sure if it's a gastronomical problem. I do drink alcohol, in moderation. I've been looking up possible diagnosis, but don't have all the symptoms. It's just a dull achy pain. I am also a dancer, so I'm hoping it's a muscle strain. Still worried though, so any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hello Lynn,

Welcome to our Pain Management Community. I am glad that you found us and took the time to post your symptoms so informatively. Thank you.

I cannot guess what your symptoms may be telling you....other then you should consult your PCP if this continues. You are correct that this could be a muscle strain. Because you do not have any other symptoms that would point to a GI problem I doubt it is related to your GI Tract. However anything is possible.

Does heat or ice help ease your pain? Have you taken any NSAIDs? Are they effective in reducing it?

If it were "pleuritic pain" (which I assume she meant to be related to your pleural cavity where your lungs are located) as suggested above I do think you would have accompanying symptoms. Whatever the cause you should not let this continue without medical investigation.

I do hope you will let us know how you are doing. I'll look forward to hearing from you again.

Best of Luck to You,
~Tuck

I have been diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and I also have osteoarthritis.  I have had low back pain for quite a awhile now. I have had carpel tunnel in both hands and cubicle tunnel in both elbows for which I had surgery to repair them. I also had a torn menicus in my knee which was also surgically repaired. Right now I am having pain across my lower back with an area about 2 inches to the left of my spine that is  particularly more painful.  Although, they are attempting to treat the osteoarthritis they never mention the Ehlers Danlos and joint pain is a characteristic of EDS. I feel awkward about this and wonder why none of my doctors make EDS part of the big picture.  I sometimes feel that they must not think I really have EDS and am just a "nervous worrier" . The doctor that is treating me for pain now is the same dr. that sent me to the genetic dr who diagnosed me. So does EDS cause pain in and by itself in addition to the OA? I am getting confused and discouraged.

Hi Lynn, I have also experienced the type of pain the you are currently going through, and it was always muscular pain too. It is either muscular, skeletal pain or either pleuritic pain that you are experiencing right now, and because you do not have any other underlying problems, it sounds to me that an antiinflamotory will treat this as in difine, which will work wonders.... please do let me know how you get on with this, as I have "always" experienced this type of pain since childhood, and I am 38 now!! if you feel the need to PM me, do not hesitate, as I would love to know how you get on pet!!!
