Well the substance abuse forum is for you moreso, but starting on 80mg of Oxycontin a day? That's quite a lot and not what most doctors would ever start someone on.
I saw my dr yesterday and told the issues i was having. He freaked out on me, not because of the narcotics, but the tylenol. I was getting about 6500-7000mg of tylenol a day. He switched me over to Norco, and said we would ween me off when the pain got better. This way he allows me to take 2 tabs every 4 hours, which is now working great and not having any problems with the pain.
To answer your question, on the first post, the way it is worded i guess i do kind of sound like an addict. This is not the case, I guess i just let my wife get to me because she was saying that it is way too much narcotics, but the dr did not think so.
I do appreciate your help on this matter, this seemed the only place to turn to in my time of need. I had no one else to talk to. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
I think I may have misunderstood your initial post. Did I? Is it not an addiction issue but rather inadequate medication to control your pain.
Your pain medication may not have been strong enough to control your pain once they decreased it. I hope your physician will investigate and listen to you and treat accordingly rather than just labeling you.
P{lease let us know how your appointment went and how you are doing.
Peace, Tuck
Thanks for your response. To answer your question, I was taking more to get adequte pain relief. I talked with my wife about, and she is going to dispense them to me and slowly ween off of them. i.e. 8 a day for a week, then 7 a day for a week and so on. I have never had an addiction problem before in my life. It has taken them 3 years to figure out my problem with my pain. I see the doctor at 3 pm today and will fill him in on the problem. I am just hoping when i get weened off of these pills, alieve will help with pain control. This is the first time I ran out of my pills early, and i don't know if it happened from the switch from oxycodone 10/325 down to vicodin 10/660.
Hello Wlcomn,
Welcome to the Pain Management Forum. I am sorry to hear about your pain and the issues you have with controlling your narcotic pain usage.
Most of us on this forum are chronic pain sufferers that do not have an issue with narcotics. Our meds generally last the amount of time they are suppose to last. We take them responsibly. Are you taking more because they do not control your pain or because you are seeking a high. These can be two different things.
Addiction is a disease and can happen to anyone. Do you have a loved one in the house that can dispense your meds as they should be taken? Please know that you are welcome here but we do have a Substance Abuse Forum that may be able to offer you more suggestions than we can. You can locate that forum by clicking on forums at the top of this page. They are listed in alphabetical order.
You have made a wise decision to discuss this with your physician. There are non-narcotic meds that may provide you with some pain releif. Tramadol, works much like morphine may be an alternative for you. However that drug also comes with it's own set of usage problems.
I admire your strength and your early recognition of a possible problem. I am sure you will do fine. Please let us know how you are doing.
Peace, Tuck
