Leg Pain....please help (Thank you!!!!!)

Thank you, so much for all the responses from everyone. The advice from everyone was very helpful!!!  I finally decide to go to Halifax Health hospital. I was able to have a MRI done and I was placed on their Patients Assistance program, which assistant uninsured patients with their medical bills and specialist. They referred me to local orthopedic specialist. The Orthopedic stated that my leg was healing properly and he placed a hard cast on it. I have to wear it for 3 months.

I thank all of you for convincing me to seek medical attention.

Hi Again Lorai,

I am so sorry that you are having issues with this physician. No one should ever be treated rudely. Unfortunately it happens no matter who is the payee.

Unfortunately you do need the cast changed every month for several reasons. The most important on is due to the healing process need. As the bone(s) heal the casting position and placement may change. If it is not monitored and cared for correctly it may not heal properly.

So as much as I hate to tell you this....you do need to see a physician EVERY month. Ignore his rudeness. Just let him care for your fracture. You need only communicate your needs and get out of there.

Again I am sorry that you have come up with such a rude Doc. Be the better person and just ignore his remarks and comments.

Peace,
~Tuck

Thank you both for your replies. I really APPRECIATE the time you both have taken out of your day to assist me : )

Here's my latest update:

This past week my hard plaster cast became wet on the inside, while I was taking a shower. So I called the doctors office to setup an appointment for this Monday morning and the Orthopedic treated me very poorly. I'm not sure if its, because Patients Assistance is paying for everything or if that's his personality. This is the second time he's treated me this way. The first time I ignored. I figured maybe he was having a bad day. But this morning he treated me the exact same way. He didn't look at the cast nor did he feel the cast to determine if it needs to be replaced. He refused to give me any types of bags or ties to avoid it getting wet. He also refused to replace my cast and replied unless you have hundreds of dollars, I cant replace it. I have to wear the cast for 3 months and I have to have a new cast replaced every month. I called Halifax Hospital to see if they could change my on-call doctor, but they couldn't.  He treated me very poorly and I refuse to go back to him!

My questions are:

1. How imperative is it to have the hard plaster cast replaced?
2. Can I wear the same hard plaster cast for 3 months?
3. If I do wear the same cast for 3 months without going back the Orthopedic, can I remove the cast myself?

This is great news!! Thank you so very much for you update.

Our members are always encouraging, supportive and offer good suggestions. We've been there and can relate. Most of us are "old hands" at this thing called chronic pain.

I am so glad that you found solutions. You've proved once again that being assertive can open doors that we thought we closed. You are the one that made this happen...by having the intestinal fortitude to take action based on our comments.

I'll look forward to hearing from you again. I wish you the very best and am so happy if we were of any assistance!

Take Care,
~Tuck

Hi Lorai,

I posted this on your older Thread but I'm reposting it here for you.  :)

I unfortunately wasn't able to post on your original post but you were fortunate to have TWO of our VERY best to give you suggestions.

I'm VERY glad that you took Jaybay's and Tuck's suggestions and sought a Physician. How fortunate that your state offers the programs that Jaybay guided you to!!! I'm SOOO glad that you were accepted into the Hospitals Program and were able to get the Specialized medical help that you desperately needed to allow your leg to heal properly.

NOW you can look forward to a WONDERFUL future with a FULLY functioning and HEALTHY leg.

Good for you!!!  I hope that you will keep us AL informed on your progress. I PROMISE you that everyone will be looking forward to your NEXT update.....Sherry
