Oxymorphone Vs. Oxycodone?

Does anyone have an idea,as to how strong any strength Opana(brand name)
is to Oxycodone? My new PM Dr. wants me to get down from 40mg of
Methadone to about 20mg,in only one weeks time,before he starts precribing
me Opana. I've already had been taking huge amounts of 15mg Oxycodone a
day,for 5 years also,along with the Methadone. I tried to explain to him,just how
tolerant,I had become to the Oxy,but I think it fell on def ears. Just wondering if
this new plan will be any different,than the plan that has failed in giving me any
pain releif at all,for the past 5 years. This is only the second PM Dr. I've seen
since my first started prescribing me huge doses of Methadoe and Oxy,so I'm
just alittle curious,as to how this new program will work,or if it's basically the
same med as Oxy. Any help distringuishing between the two forms of Oxy,
would be greatly appreciated. Thanks All.

On the contrary, I have seen tons of threads here where people pose the same type of question!!  As a matter of fact, someone was asking about switching from methadone to subutex!  Dave W. Is trying to wean to a different med, as many people on here do, just as there are many people on here that take suboxone, subutex, methadone, as a way to work towards getting clean.  Just as there are many people on here who are still on pain meds and trying to figure out ways to get off; and yes, sometimes a persons way of getting of a med is to switch to a med that is less potent.  So most people on here seem to WANT to discuss pain pills, addiction, and offer their advice and support.  You dont need to make the guy feel like he cant come here

hey guess what !!!! i agree with you!!!!   LOL!!  but i did look up opana and i thought it said it also came in 20mg and 40 mgs....BUT...the few pages i read said opana er (extended release) so i dont know if that is the ONLY way it comes (er), or the other also...

Thanks all. I really didn't even consider the thread needing to be somewhere else,since
I always saw people asking about different drugs they were taking,switching to,or getting off of.
No big deal. I'm not upset,so long as noone else is.

I am in a world of ****. I have a failed 3 level fusion.  My pain level can stay around 4 if I do next to nothing.  If I do much of anything, it can get to 8 or 9.  I have been on pain meds for about 8 years. I am trying to NOT take too much pain medicine, but not be in pain, and the meds I've been prescribed are for severe pain.  They are correctly prescribed-my back kills me, but the pain meds are killing me too!  I don't know what to do.

I have tried both the oxycontin many strenghts the 80 mg are not very strong the bes ones are the oxycontin 60 mg
but the problem is every 3 months like clockwork i would get very sixk vomiting and shaking very bad shivering in bed for at least 3 to 4 days every time i would get to my las few tablets like 8 hrs after my last dose this would happen it was crazy the pain mgt pac switched me to opana ER  40 mg twice a day v/s the 4 a day of oxycontin this is along with norco 10/325 10 a day 3 zanax 0.5 mg and soma 350 mg 4 a day but i would sisc every 3 mos like clockwork so the opana 40 mg 2 a day then up to 3 a day then finially i got the 4 a day which is the max most ins will pay it is $1596.00 for 120 tabs no generic available i think the oxy works a lot better but the side effects i dont get sick on the opana i have been on them for almost 6 months now i would love to take the oxy again but i know what will happen they say opana is stronger but i dont think so but i could be wrong maybe it is all in my mind
