Pain Management

I have been in Pain Management now for five years. Gone from Vicodin to Morphine, from Morphine to Spinal Stimulator & Vicodin. With failed stimulator (for what ever reason) back on Morphine and Morphine mg getting higher & higher. I have reciently been placed on Morphine patch.
When put on the patch, will your body go through withdrawals symptoms? I dont feel ill in any way, I feel depressed and worthless...

Last Monday at 2:30 am I was admitted to a local Mental Health. After four days with treatment and new antidepressants. I feel so much better. Finding this site and reading the response I got. Truely helped. Thank You all very much.........
Now to answer your questions. I am on the Fentanyl Patch and I have tried Oxycontin. So far the Fentanyl Patch seems to be working. As far as the Oxycontin, I have been on it and my body got immune very fast. So as you can see, I have tried about very thing.
Pain Management now wants to put in a Pain PUMP. I am really twisted with those thoughts. Does any one have one? How is it and how does it work for you?

Once again Thank You ALL

Have you tryed oxcontin? Morphine didn't help my pain at all. Oxycontin worked great and lasted for hours until the change they made in the fillers. It still works but not as long lasting. It's not as dangerous as they say, if taken as directed.

Hello Crickett,

Welcome to the Pain Management Forum. I am glad that you found us and took the time to post. It sounds like you have not had been through so much.

I assume you mean will you experience withdrawals from the other opiates you are on once you are transferred to the patch. Opiate patches provide small, steady doses of their active ingredients over a long time period. You should not experience any withdrawal symptoms but everyone is different.

Are you on a fentanyl patch or a morphine patch?

Opiates can induce depression as can the fact that you have chronic pain. I hope you will consider seeking the help of a therapist. There are some that are very experienced in treating chronic pain patients. Feelings of despair can go hand in hand with the journey through pain. You are not alone but you need to reach out for help.

Please let us know how you are doing. We are here to offer our support. I will look forward to hearing from you again soon.

Take Care,
~Tuck

I don't see why you would have withdrawals from the patch- unless it's a much lower dosage. The only patches I've taken are the Duragesic , so I don't know for sure. What I do know is that you are NOT worthless! All of the ups and downs associated with PM can be traumatic- especially until you find a stable regimen that works for you. Don't beat yourself up! Give the patches some time to work and keep your chin up. :)
