No Help For Pain Control

I have been reading the posts made here and wanted to post this which isn't so much a question but a statement. We pain sufferers are put through the ringer trying to obtain and keep pain managemnet doctors and there are those who abuse the system to get drugs to sell or to get high and it is highly unfair to us legit paitents that have to go through hell to obtain meds that we need to function. What can we do as paitents to ensure we get treatment and the drug seekers get nothing as their due nothing?
I think we should stand up for our rights and fight the ones who make it hard on us to get the treatment we require.

I feel very protective of my doctor and I'm glad that he's sharp and a good judge of people.
And I've told him when I found out something about a patient.

It makes me really angry when I hear somebody brag about fooling a doctor and when I hear that all kinds of painkillers are for sale on the street.  Looking at the posts on the
substance abuse forum I couldn't believe some of the things I read.

Its never too late to tell your DR that your Mom saw that happening. If she can remember what they looked like you can always describe them.  Maybe your DR is already suspicious of a few people but cant prove it.
I'm not saying you have to of course, just that if someone else find out before your DR..i.e the police. Your doc will get investigated and there is a pretty high chance that she will be arrested. Then they lose there liscence to practice and you and your mom lose pain management.

When you have a pain management DR and there is someone bragging about selling or abusing the medication...make a judgement.  We have to be extra eyes and ears for them.  They cant follow everyone out into the parking lot.  Its your DR, your way of functioning, dont let anyone mess that up for you.  You can bet your a** they dont care about you and what your going to go throug hif you dont get your medication.
You dont have to make a judgement that they are the scum of the earth, but you can certainly make a judgement that they are doing something Illegal and do not deserve to get away with it.  

Help your DR out, its near impossible to get another one sometimes...most of the time

Toomanyadvil and sandy, thanks:-)  I want to throw a tantrum when I hear about the docs being persecuted.  They are trying to help and they are putting themselves on the line to help us.  My mom and I go to the same doc and while we were waiting she went outside to smoke and there were 3 other people out there and right in front of here thay were talking about how they sold their meds.  My mom didn't tell me until later and I wished she would have said something while we were there because I would have reported them.  She didn't get their names.  I don't like to make judgements, but I could tell why they were there, they were joking around, jumping up and down from their chairs, definately did not look in pain to me.

Sandee just one last note, dont put all your support in the DA'a but do put alot
They are still investigating our DR's when they gavent had a tip off or anything. Alot of them believe we shouldnt be getting narcotics if were not terminal.
I just wanted to *** that just so your caucious of the both sides. Think long before you go to the police before you let your DR handle it bacuse if the Law is the first to find out, your DR is going to be investigated and may be put in Jail.  Always tell your Doc first.  But if its at the pharmacy call the police.  I'm just talking about at her office or outside the office.
Its hard to want to help the people you know have the power to take your help away, so I always walk a caucious line when it comes to the DA.

One of the women I turned in got 40 years for selling 40 lortab, the law is getting tough on this stuff here in Fla. They are not playing around. The selling of prescription drugs are outweighing the selling of street drugs by far.
I read the article to about Purdue and the FDA turned down their version of the pill that is fool proof according to them, the FDA says the addicts will always find a way and they were not impressed with their 'new pill'. I am with you they need to start worrying about the true pain Pt's before worrying about the addicts. For awhile the drug oxy was under the gun because so many addicts were using it and rumor was they were going to pull it off the market no matter how many true Pt's was getting help from it. But I knew they never would because it generates too much money, as Toomuchadvil says they pulled the generics and a script of one month is anywhere from 400$ on up. I do make sure the pharmacy I use never utters the word out loud simply because it is no ones business what I take but now that it is said here security is a valid concern too.
If one person is found to be screwing with the scripts by selling or abusing or multiple scripts then the dr who so graciously tried to help is in deep trouble too. We need to stand behind our dr and help him/her anyway we can by helping to weed out these stupid idiots that are screwing everybody's life up that needs these meds to survive and function. I have  children and have to be able to function everyday whether I am able or not. They do not wait for my dr to take care of me I have to take care of them regardless of my pain level and if it is being treated!
The DEA is cracking down on these drs who are simply prescribing these meds for monetary gain and they have my full support and I will help them in any way I can, we have to play a part in our care and if we see someone selling their pills we should go to our dr or the authorities. I suggest you tell your dr so he/she can handle the situation so that it does not look like he is involved in any way.
I have heard of these "skittle parties" and it makes my blood boil that kids are being so stupid and irresponsible. I make sure my children know I am against this nonsense and if they are ever caught doing this stupid stuff they will suffer dire consequences. I keep my meds put up so no one knows where they are but me. No one even knows what I take except my dr and my husband. To make sure I am not viewed as a drug addict and to ensure my meds are safe from kids and thieves.

It is utterly sad that we the real sufferers of pain have to worry about being viewed as drug addicts because of the true drug addicts

I guess I was writing while you were boxer, I'm so happy you feel the same way as we all do, well we who have actually said so.  I try to understand a little taht people may not know the severity of what we have to go through, but then I realize, if you have chronic pain then you've been denied help at least once and it's not long before you figure it out.
Kids these days will take ANYTHING especially if it says "do not drink with this" on the label. They figure if you cant drink with it then it must be good. Wrong. You cant drink with anti-biotics or psychotropics either.

Its awful what we go through and its getting worse.  Everyone of our DR's is subject to investigation on a yearly basis because of these STUPID kids, and yes I typed that right.  Stupidity is what I'm talking about.  I donbt usually refer to other people this way but they are killing themselves, there friends and ruining it for us.  Unfortunitly its not just the kids its adults too.  Unortunitly more adults than kids because kids arent usually treated for chronic pain unless its something that is terminal or  very, very severe.  There are people getting scripts just to sell to the kids and others getting scripts to get "high"

Unfortunitly they've discontinued generic oxy so we are all at more risk when you pick it up from your DR or the pharmacy. I wont say anymore about it because i dont want to give anyone any ideas, but the Brand name of anything always goes for a higher price which means dont let the people at the pharmacy even say the name of your prescription out loud.  You never know who is standing behind you.

I hate to sound so apocolyptic about this, but thats the way it is right now.

I have recently gotten to see the other side of this, I cant say how yet maybe in the future. I have learned alot about how the law interferes with narcotic prescription and what kind of game our DR's play right along with us.  
You are doing a great thing by turning in anyone who is abusing our sysyem and I'm so glad you started this thread.
I think it speaks volumes as to how many people have replied to your initial message.  A little dissapointing that not everyone feels this way.

      So continue what your doing and lets continue to shut those people down who are trying to manipulate us in order to manipulate our DR's.  I'm a little protective over mine as I can see you are too.

I wish we werent the minority here.  I'll always back yo uup here when ot comes to telling someone its NOT okay to do these things.

Oh boy could I get on a soap box. What I don't understand is all the time, energy and concern is going towards the addict. Meds are stopped being prescribed, they move cold medicine behind the counter, I read an arcticle that the board of the pharmaceutical company that makes oxycontin has big concerns over their effort to make it harder for drug addicts.  They put a polymer coating on it which is supposed to make it harder to get to the med inside, but still works normally for the pain patient.(which at least they are trying to help keep the med available for pain patients).  One of the things they are worried about is what about the drug addict with the propencity for chemistry that figures out how to by-pass the coating? Are you kidding me? Why do they not understand that drug addicts will do whatever it takes to get high.  They need to be worried about what happens to pain patients who can't get pain management. There will always be addicts, look at the kids today, they grab everything out of a medicine cabinet, go to a party, put all the meds in a big bowl(i think they call it skittles?) and just start taking them, even though they might be blood pressure meds or anti-biotics or whatever. I am tired of having to pay the price because some addict needs their high.

I thank everyone for their responses. I think we all need to find ways to stop these people who mess it up for us. I for one will turn in someone who is abusing the system or I see selling or trying to sell their meds. I have seen peopel come out of the dr office trying to sell their scripts and I will turn them in to the dr so he can deal with them and keep the rest of us including the dr safe and able to recieve the help we need.

I don't know where to start. I have bad prostate pain, over twenty kidney stones and plus a shoulder injury so I have the proof but I feel the doctors are in a catch 22. My wife sees me in my condition and she knows it for real, I know in certain states they have to give you pain meds by law but again the drug seekers figured that one out also. I can tell you more of my story but like you said it would lead the seekers to find another way to get them and they have already messed it up for us in true pain. I feel for anyone in real pain after what I went through for so many years,

I am with you there because I don't always know for sure I do hold my tongue. There have ben several frauds here lately and do seek ways to get the meds they want.
We should not be giving them any pointers thats for sure

I agree 200%, I am very angry at those who abuse and manipulate the system or come here and try to get us to tell them how to get pain meds from a doc, and believe that those people are here all the time.
Its hard to tell the honest people from the frauds.
Dont ever tell anyone how to get pain medication from there doctor. Infact those of us who are truely in pain dont know anyway as we didnt have to manipulate anyone to get it, or the frauds have ruined it for us and we cant get it either.

I am very touch on anyone saying they are abusing medication or breaking the law because they are contributing to our problem for remaining ubtreated and continuing to suffer.
Unfortunitly I dont always say exactly what I want to say.
