Pain at Base of Skull After Taking Migraine Medication

I am a healthy woman in my mid-30s, and I experience burning, aching pain at the base of my skull after taking the migraine medication Sumatripan. I get the same feeling after consuming small amounts alcohol. What might be causing this pain? Should I stop taking my medication?

Be very careful with Tramadol.  It can be addicting and can be very hard to get off as itnhas an anti-depressant component to it as well as a pain killing component.  Ask your doctor about CoQ10.  It's an all-natural supplement and my daughter has had great luck with this.  It does take a few weeks ro kick in.

This is the IMITREX injection pen?

I have no anecdotal information to share, and with questions like this, you really should talk with your doctor. The medication works by inducing vaso-constriction, and perhaps you're experiencing more vasospasm than you should. As to why alcohol causes the same reaction is a mystery as alcohol normally causes the opposite response -- vaso-dilation.

Perhaps you need a lower dose or a different medication -- please consult your doctor.
