Pain meds with xanax doctor cutting me off my xanax

I've been on my oxycodone, and xanax since I've been in pain management for crohns, arthritis,, etc..My recent visit, they said I can't take my xanax anymore, I'm really upset, I've been with this place for three years, told me before, since I've been taking them together and haven't had a problem I could continue to take  them. Went to my appt, yesterday now their saying I have to go off my xanax, I have severe anxiety, and panic attacks!! Said there is too many overdose deaths, so I have to be punished?! Anyone else take xanax with pain medication, I can't believe it! Time to find a new doctor!  I was told next appt, I either get pain medicine or my xanax, I need both...

Doctor wasn't mad, simply didn't want me to suffer. Like you, I have managed to get a good pain doc, and he feels that suffering is pointless.

Also, Oxy has been changing over the recent years wrt trying to prevent abuse. But yet again, we real pain patients suffer due to the abuses of others. The additives they have been using to try and reduce the abuse has also changed the absorption process, leading to less effectiveness, which surprises those that used to gain relief in the past.

Dark times for us in so many ways.

Denise, please see your PM doctor asap, and let them know the Oxy isn't working. I suffered in a similar way, and when I finally saw my doctor, he was upset that I didn't let him know earlier that things weren't working out.

I did cut my patch, it's the one without the gel, and I'm not feeling as bad, plus I can't drive, my husband can't get off work, my pain dr. Gives me the oxy. I guess my body just has to adjust, when I go to my next app. I'm going to tell her that it's not working for my pain, and hopefully she will up it, I was hoping it would be enough. I just don't know what 30mg. Is equivalent to the 50mg. Patch, I know my dr. Looked it up, so not sure why I was feeling so horrible, I've taken oxy before I was put on the patch 12 yrs ago, cause the oxy stopped working, but when I switched to patch from the oxy, it wasn't bad at all, maybe like 3 days I felt a little bit off, but was fine after that. Thanks for your response. Why did your dr, get mad? Can it hurt you? Or do you have a great dr. That doesn't want you to suffer, hard to find those! Mine is nice. It's just me, I can't speak up and ask stuff.

That's so weird, I am on well, was on patch for 12yrs. It stopped working so switched to OxyContin, I've been on Ativan 1 and half mg. 3xday for 20yrs. I was talking with my primary dr. My mom had to go, she has been on Valium since the 70's due to my dad would beat her up, she has so much anxiety, and is on Diluadid, due to she got a spinal injection, she got nasty infection, turned septic she lost 3 of her vertebra and 2 screws in her back! She almost died from getting a simple injection! she's trying to get off the Diluadid, and the primary took one of her doses of Valium away due to she was getting confusion,it wasn't due to the medications,  well, she was better, but had anxiety still, I had asked since she is almost off the Diluadid would you allow her to take her Valium back to 3 x day? He said no, cause now, it's either you pick, either the pain meds or the Valium, he said that I am still on both cause I have been on it before they changed this law or whatever, but he said from now on anyone that will come to him for both he will only give out one or the other. I get my Ativan from my primary and my pain meds from my pain dr. I think this is so stupid! Especially for people who get the relief they need! I feel very lucky to have a dr. Who is not taking my Ativan. I wish I didn't have to be on any of these meds! It's such a pain in the butt! I hope you can get your xanax... don't these idiots know we hate having to take this crap! We all get punished one way or another due to the people who abuse this stuff! I feel like I get treated like a criminal, it took me over 5 yrs to get the guts up to speak up and change my pain med that was not working anymore, just changed it yesterday, wish I didn't! Oxy 30mg. Is not as strong as 50mg of fentanyl! I've got with drawls and pain through the roof! I've just about had it! Hate my life!

I take exactly the same medications you do and have never had a problem. My primary Dr was worried about me combing these meds so she cut me down trying to ween me off of the Xanax. I went back and told her that I could not take it any more, I was having a lot more anxiety and panic attacks. So she put me back up to my regular dose.
I think it's so unfair that you're being punished because of other people using these meds when they don't need them. Statistics show that pain patients are very good about taking their meds as prescribed.
Remind your Dr how long you've taken these two meds together with no problems. Ask if they can try just cutting your Xanax down a little to see how you do. In my opinion, there's no need for them to take you off of them. Anxiety is not good for us. It can keep us from doing things, it can increase our pain, we can lose sleep, and so on.
Please keep me up to date on how you're doing. Oh, another recommendation. Talk to your primary Dr about this and ask how they feel about your pain Dr taking you off of the Xanax. He/she might be able to talk to your pain Dr to tell them how much you need the Xanax.
