I went to a physiatrist is an excellent choice as seano mentioned. I made an appointment with one a few years ago. I had 5 surgeries on my spine in less than 2 years. I was getting so much information thrown at me and I didn't know what diagnosis to look at.  The physiatrist looks at your entire system and works with your other doctors to come up wit a plan. The physiatrist was so helpful in assisting me later with documentation for disability.  All of his testing and excellent documentation confirmed all of my symptoms and led to the disability award. I finally felt like I knew what was going on with me in addition to having fibromyalgia.  Best to you.

I think a physiatrist  (not psychiatrist) is an excellen choice for patients with multiple problems, or diagnosis. They are regular medical doctors, but with 2 extra years of schooling with emphasis on the muscoskeletal system. They can be found by looking under them up under physical medicine and rehabilitation in most directories- (hospitals, phone book, etc..) Good Luck.

Hello Danp56,

Welcome to the Pain Mangement Forum. I read your profile and am so sorry to hear about all your medical problems and chronic debilitating pain. We can relate to that.

Unfortunately we cannot help you find a physician. It is by trial and error that we find the "right" one. Ask friends and neighbors. If you lived in Wisconsin (the frozen tundra) I could suggest several excellent physicians.

Based on your profile page I think it is important that you have a good PMP as well as an astute PCP. Personally I have found Internal Medicine Physicians better prepared to address my multiple internal organ issues. I am fortunate that my PCP is just that and a D.O. rather than an MD. Her empathy and understanding is exceeded by no one.

The DO's philosophy focuses on the unity of all body parts and the musculoskeletal system as a key element of health. After years of seeing MD's and being told there was nothing wrong with me she identified the problems and provided me with a diagnosis that all the MD's missed. They now agree that her diagnosis is correct.

In my opinion where you find that perfect physician for you is unfortunately a crap shoot. I have seen other physicians that friends or family have said are "great" and they were not great for me.

I can only wish you the very best. I'll also ask you to keep in touch and let us know how you are doing. We are here to support you and offer suggestions and information.

Take Care,
Tuck

Hi danp56:

No, unfortunately MedHelp is not geared to find you health care. That is something that you must find on your own. MedHelp is geared to giving advise on medical conditions and support. I'm sorry that I couldn't be of more help.

Take care,
Mollyrae
