Triumph!

I just wanted to share my joy and triumph in that I've been able to make dinner the past two nights.  I also conquered a mountain of laundry over a week ago.  I've also been keeping up with dishes on my own quite well.  I know most people would be like "Whoop-de-doo, *eye roll*" but for me, any time I'm able to do something like these things, it's a big deal.
I may get adventurous later and vaccuum, lol.  I bought a smaller, lightweight one so that I can manuever it with the arm that doesn't hurt.

Feel free to share your own triumphs as well.  However small.  It's great to have such supportive people that we have here.

Orchids are definetly fun!  We live in what's considered South Florida and the AOS's main gardens are about 45 minutes from here.  There are also orchid shows all through the winter.  It is a big part of FL that I will miss.
I was a fanatic in 2004, before my divorce and had over 20 plants.  Paphs are one of my favorites, although I don't have any right now.  We went to the Miami International Orchid Show a few months ago, my husband brought me and it was SO cool.  I can share some pics on my profile.  All the local orchid clubs did HUGE displays.  It was amazing.  I only had a few Phals before that, so we stocked up on a jar of seedlings of Cattleas, some bags of Cattleas, a Zygopetalum, a Maxa(something, it smells like coconut, lol), and an Epidendrum "Green Hornet"(which I had had before and was glad to get another).  I think that's it. :)
My husband got "orchid fever" when we went to the show, hence the purchases.  I was thinking that I would love to get some original species Cattlea and the like, although the hybrids they have now are so exciting.
We're moving soon to Arizona, and I'm wondering how I'm going to keep them humid enough, but I'm thinking I'm going to have to create an ideal environment via small shaded greenhouse or something.  I'm hoping there's a club in AZ that I can join.
I really is great to meet another orchid lover.  The plants are so rewarding when they bloom and you just want to tell someone when you see a bud, haha.

I grow orchids too!  My mother has grown them for decades and started slowly giving me plants over the years as it became more difficult for her to care for them.  I inherited the remaining plants when she died this past March.  Two of her cattleyas were in full bloom at the time, so I brought them to the funeral service.  One was white and the other orange - Mom's favorite color.  She started with a cattleya Santa Rosa seeding back in the early 1970's, and at one point the collection grew to over 50 plants.  Mom always started with small seedlings and waited years for blooms.  I'm the same way.  That's half the fun of growing things!

Aren't orchids fun to grow?  They really aren't as temperamental as people think.  Filtered sunlight, "feed and water weakly weekly" and you'll be rewarded.  Most people kill them with kindness through overwatering.

I've got 6 miniatures (phalaenopsis, doritis, dendrobium) in my kitchen window above the sink.  The steam from the sink helps keep up the humidity they like so much, and most of them bloom from November through March.  The cattleyas get rolling in the Spring.

Always glad to meet another orchid horticulturist!  :-)

It's nice to know I'm not alone with the kids whom I can't even bribe enough to work!  Sometimes I worry that they see me laid up most of the time and feel like "Mom doesn't get up clean, why should I?".  My daughter is the sweetest thing in the world, and tries to do anything I ask her, but she's also very disorganized and has trouble with multiple instructions at once.  Such as:  clean your room, then take your dirty clothes to the laundry room, then make sure you don't have anything laying around the house.  If I don't check in on each step, to find her engaged in some creative project, (She's really brilliant), and redirect her energy, she can sit in her room for hours playing with dust bunnies, lol.
My son used to be a perfectionist.  Especially about his room.  Well he's 12 now and will be 13 in August and he could care less about perfection.  (Unless it's on the PS3)  Usually he just does the thing I ask him to, as quick as possible to get back to his game. At least he's motivated, right? lol
I think it's great you get someone in once a week.  I need to do that too when we get our situation all straightened out and move.  I know we are for sure hiring someone to clean the house when we move (along with movers and packers) because I know it would just be too much for me.
Thanks for rejoicing with me everyone.  It's so great to have people who understand. :)

I agree with everyone, I don't know what I would have done if I hadn't found my family on here!  Thanks everyone for being so supportive.

What a fantastic post!!  Only people on this forum can relate to how big a deal it is to do laundry or clean your house.

I have four kids, 11, 12, 15 and nearly 18.  You would think I could get them to help but I can't.  Nothing motivates them, not paying them (not enough), not guilt, pleading.  When I have a melt down, they pitch in then and then it's back to usual.  People say, "Just make them."  Not so easily done.

I have a cleaning lady that comes in once a week.  I really can't afford it but I just can't give it up. It's actually a group of 2 to 4 that come.  They're here about 2 to 2.5 hours.  Everything gets done:  sheets changed, furniture pulled out, floors washed, bathrooms done.  It's amazing.  I feel better when things are clean and in place.

These are things I did all myself and never gave it a thought.  At the moment my laundry is sooo backed up it's discouraging.  Seriously, I have 6 filled plastic trash barrels next to the laundry.  I feel like it will never get done.  (But I figure if everyone goes off in clean clothes for the day, that's all I really need.

Tomorrow night I'm having my daughter's graduation party.  I'm used to throwing parties and I used to really enjoy it. I used to make every, single thing from scratch.  Tomorrow, everything is catered.  It's not worth doing myself.  Then I'd be in agony no matter how much pain meds I took.

I'm glad you had such a triumph and it's good to know other people face the same issues.

That's wonderful that you were able to accomplish all you did.  We all take pride in being able to do the everyday things we used to do without a second thought.  This should raise your spirits if for only a while.  Now is I could just get out to my roses!!

Thank you, Gemini.  I'm a gemini, too, just thought I'd mention it. :)
Jaybay-  A lot of our neighbors lost a lot of tropicals here in Florida too.  It was a bummer to see, but we are renting and nothing here got frozen.  I pulled in my passionflower and desert rose overnight several nights to save them.  They, and my orchids are my pet plants.  I haven't been able to do much in the gardens besides a major mulching we did a while back.  There's so much weeding that needs to be done now I just watch the weeds grow, lol.
I ended up not getting out the vacuum.  I started to get a migraine a few hours ago so I took some tylenol and have been using ice on my head.  I took a moment between ice to come respond to messages and check the forum.  So far I've been keeping it at bay.

Well done!  Still, be cautious about getting out that vacuum.  You don't want to turn that triumphant success into the agony of defeat.  ;-)

A good day for me is one where I can get my hands dirty in the garden.  We lost a lot of tender tropicals in a terrible freeze last winter, but I'm not missing them.  Less to worry about and the hardier plants are putting on quite a show this year.  My gardens provide my little victories over CP.

I'm so glad you've been feeling up to doing some things that you hadn't been feeling well enough to do.  It's amazing how these small things are such GIGANTIC triumphs in our lives now that we live with CP.  I know before I suffered from CP, it was nothing for me to clean the entire house, work in the garden and mow the lawn all in the same day and think nothing of it.  Now I feel like I've accomplish SOMETHING if I can manage to make the bed in the morning or do the dinner dishes.

Just remember not to overdo - or else you'll more than likely end up paying for it - doing one or two things a day is sometimes much more tolerable than trying to do 3 or 4.  It will all eventually get done - even if you have to ask someone else for help.

Congrats on this and also on the baby!

Jamie:  Thank you!  I know how it is to have stairs and a big house.  This baby will be our first together but fourth child.  We have a one story house here in FL, but when we move to AZ, we've been looking at a two story.  I think we'll also hire a helper to clean.  It's so great that you're able to work in your garden.  It's so good for you in addition to being fun.
Totie:  That's a great idea.  I think I'll do something like that with my kids this summer.  Only they don't drive, so they won't want gasoline. lol

Well I have to say having my son do all the house cleaning, mowing lawn, laundry for the summer FOR gas money. It has worked out quiet well...My husband & I work so it is nice when it is done for you before you get home.

He was only allowed one full gas tank every two weeks during school, now that summer is here he wants to hang out with friends, & that takes up his gas allowance.

That is great!!! I am so glad your able to do that stuff and it makes you feel so much better doing it dont it? Yep alot of people that don't deal with pain will say so I do that all the time but we know how hard it is to do it and when we are able to do it, it is a big deal and I am so glad you are able to do it. But don't over do yourself!.
I have been trying to clean my house for 3 days now. mostly I want to get the bathrooms done. We went from a 2 bedroom apartment to this big 4 bedroom house and we have 3 bathrooms. So I it is so much harder to clean now. I am thinking about asking my kids to help me today. I need to get it done cause I feel so much better when I am able to do it. Oh and we have stairs now so I have to carry everything upstairs to use to clean and I don't have the money to go out and buy 2 sets of cleaning supplies lol A big thing for me is being able to work in my garden, I love to plant flowers and take care of them and we just planted a veggy garden a few weeks ago and my husband has been taking care of most of it. I was able to plant some sunflower seeds. I LOVE sunflowers and love to watch them grow and they are starting to come up now so I cant wait to watch them grow.
I am very proud of you
