Hello and Welcome to the Pain Mangement Forum. I am glad that you found us but sorry to hear about your foot and ankle pain.

I am sorry also that you do not have insurance but I have to agree with Red. You should have this medically evaluated. You can injure yourself without even being aware of it. Ppl have reached for a cup in their cupboard or turned over in bed and later discovered they had a ruptured disc.

Gout is a possibility as is plantar fasciitis, an injured tendon, ligament or even a muscle sprain. Also possible is a systemic problem. None of us can provide you with a diagnosis. I do suggest RICE, rest, ice, compression and elevation. You could also add some OTC NSAID's and follow the label instructions. NSAID's should be taken continuously to be effective and not just once a day. Again follow the instructions on the label. your best bet to to see a clinician.

Please let keep us informed of your progress. We will look forward to your updates and how you are doing. Best of luck.

Take Care,
Tuck

If it is as bad as you describe, you should go to the ER. You may have a wide variety of things going on there.

It could be a ruptured ligament or tendon, nerve damage, or even a symptom of gout.

I injured my ankle 18 years ago and was just taking my dog for a walk earlier this year and just like you, when I put weight on my foot I ruptured my brevis tendon.

You did not mention if you have ever injured this ankle or foot in the past, so I don't know if this is your problem or not. You just mention that you didn't injure it the day before. However you say the muscles are contracting and you have pain in multiple areas of the foot. If it were a cramp it should have subsided by now.

I still must stress to you that if the pain is as bad as you describe, you need to go to the ER, insurance or not.
