Hi and sorry your aunt has tendonitis. Yes she should see a physician. From my personal experience, NSAID's help reduce inflammation and she will have to rest the wrist or hand(s) that have the problem. I don't recommend using a brace unless she cannot stop using her hands. She can also lower inflammation by using two sinks or two pails of warm and cold water. Start with 30 seconds of cold water, then 30 seconds warm, and repeat 5 times and always end with cold water. She can do this 2-3 times a day. Then, going to a physical therapist might help some. They give you electrophoresis and massage and can give her particular exercises to work on the affected area. Rest is the best to start as with any injury, ice 20minutes on and off a few times a day too plus the NSAID. Make sure she isn't on any anticoagulant medications before taking the NSAID as this can make you bleed easier too. If taking Ibupropin take on a full stomach. The doctor can also do a nerve conductivity test to see if she has carpal tunnel or tendonitis. Hope this helps.

Hello and Welcome to the Pain Management Forum.

It is our physicians that offer the proper medications and exercises to treat and control our pain. I am not comfortable advising your aunt on anything specific.

Obviously she may benefit from a NSAID as well as a Physical Therapy consult. Which NSAID should be determined by her diagnosing physician. I don't think there any specific NSAID for tendinitis, it's what her PCP believes will works best for her.

Please encourage her to consult her PCP. I wish her the best. She is fortunate to have your love and concern.

Peace,
~Tuck
