Getting relief...Finally!

I hope everyone had a great holiday.  Ours was wonderful.  I am also feeling a lot better.  I have been switched to Oxycontin 10mg.  These seem to be helping a great deal.  Yesterday, I went ALL DAY and didn't have to take anything in addition to keep the pain under control.  My Dr told me to take the percocet for breakthrough pain and I am still taking Lyrica 150mg three times a day.  I dont think the Lyrica is helping at all, unfortunetly the only thing that seems to help in anyway are the pain killers.  But I have to say this is the best I have felt in a long time.  I am so glad I decided to see this Dr and that he tried to work with me/didn't give up on me!  It is so nice to walk around without that shocking pain in my chest everytime I breath.  My question is regarding constipation.  If I take  all three kinds of medications together then I run into a problem.  Anything working for you guys?  Thanks

Hi and I am glad to hear you have gotten some pain control and had a great Christmas.
I always eat some applesauce or eat raisin bran each day and it keeps me regular without taking the harsher medications. Also if you start taking the stronger meds for constipation then your body will become dependant on them and that's not good either.
You can also try things like metamucil which you just mix into your juice daily.
Keep us updated on how your doing:)

Hi Rose,

I am so happy to hear that you have found pain releif. What a wonderful feeling!!

It's the narcotics that may cause constipation. Some ppl find just a glass of prune juice a day will address any constipation issues.  It's natural and has no harmful effects. Obviously it you are a diabetic you have to allow for the sugar content.

Some ppl have to take a stool softener once or twice a day. It all depends on how the narcotics effect you. Everyone is different.

Because I have other medical issues (lost over 3 feet of my small intestine) I do not have constipation problems. In fact without a narcotic I have just the opposite. Again I am so glad that you have found pain releif. Keep in touch and thanks for sharing.

Peace,
Tuck
