Just to add a little to Tuckamore's comments re: difference b/n slow "continuous" release ie OxyContin(uous) release, and the standard fast acting Oxycodone.
Drugs in general have what is called a half-life in metabolism to active form, and also a half-life for the extraction by the kidneys of the active form. A half-life is simply the time taken to remove/destroy one half of the drug. If T = 3hrs is the half-life to eliminate the active form of a particular drug, then once T hrs have elapsed you have only 50% of the active form left. Once another T hours have elapsed, ie 6hrs, there will be only 25% of the active form left. In practice, many interacting factors may increase or decrease the half-life substantially, so don't take it too literally.
If the half-life is short, then by the time you take another dose (eg oxycodone), virtually all of the previous dose has been cleared, and in some people would have been entirely cleared. On the other hand, if the half-life is long (eg oxycontin, which slowly releases the drug into the body, rather than almost all at once like oxycodone),
then a substantial fraction of the active form of the drug may be in the system at the time of the next dose. It can be shown that eventually an almost steady state concentration is reached. This means that after a few weeks a person may have a reasonable concentration of the active form of the drug in their body, 24 hours a day.
Hope this helps,

percocet is also a short acting opiate. They typically last me about an hour and half.
I normally take one when I wake up and the last one is normally around 7 PM so I could be experiencing the mini withdrawals. The OXYIR is an instant relief (that is what I was on) The percocet is a long acting (I think) which I guess is only 4 hrs. That is why I was unsure whether there was a difference between the two since they were both 10mg 4 times a day??
Sorry to hear about your insomnia. I think it is due to the change in medication. Yes larbec there is a difference, a big difference. I am not an expert but here is what I think. Oxycodone IR is know as OxyContin is a slow release medication. It stays in your system for at least 12 or more hours. You may achieve some of it's effect for up to 16 hours. As you take the next dose it builds on the previous doses so now you have 20mg is your system. The next dose adds another 10mg so now you have 30mg in your system and so on.
Percocet is the short acting form of OxyContin and is Oxycodone with acetaminophen. The effects last approximately four hours as compared to the longer acting OxyContin. At the end of 4 hours the majority of the Oxycodone has been metabolized by your system and there is nothing significantly remaining of the medication for the next dose to build on.
In my opinion you are in all probably experiencing some minimal withdrawal symptoms. I think your body will adjust to this change in time, maybe several more weeks. You should begin to see a gradual improvement. What time are you taking your last dose of Percocet? If agreeable with your physician you may want to try to take it as late in the evening as possible. Another possibility, if your pain permits and your physician agrees is to take the fourth dose at that 3AM wake up time. Always consult with your physician and/or your pharmacist.
Just my thoughts.

I was on 10mg OXYIR 4x a day and now 10mg Percocet 4x a day so same med basically. No other symptoms. Just the yawning and start feeling that miserable feeling and up early
what is the dosage difference> I know both drugs have oxycodone in them, but was there a drop in MG's? do you have any other symptoms?
