Thanx so much for the message and advice. I have gone to the substance forum but I was``nt sure I belonged there because I dont take these for a high and I have taken them for so long now they dont seem to help with the pain anymore. I have lived with this pain for so long it almost seems normal for me. I was hoping I could find help here but not sure how to use it properly...any help is appreciated.I tried calling an addictions center where I live but they dont consider me an addict and so I dont qualify for their help. I am so lost and alone here, just hoping for some direction.
Hello and Welcome to the Pain Mangement Forum. I am glad that you found us.
Hydromorphone is more commonly know is the USA as Dilaudid. It is a derivative of morphine. It is a potent opiate and withdrawing can be difficult. Your physician has a flippant attitude in my opinion. He may not know an effective withdrawal program. I encourage you to seek help elsewhere.
You are always welcome here but the Substance Abuse Forum has much more experience with this than the PM Forum. What will you do for pain control once you are off the hydromorphone? This is something you should consider?
Good luck to you. I wish you every success in your endeavor. Please let us know how you are doing.
Peace,
Tuck
I have asked my doctor, the one who prescribed these drugs, to help me get off the morphine...he was very casual about it and told me to skip a dose here and there! As I have tried this and find the withdrawl quite unbearable. I work 6 days a week and drive to and from work and I'm scared I'm going to cause an accident when I feel so sick from the meds. I'm not sure I have come to the right forum because I see alot of addicts who do it for the high, I don't get off on these! I want off but safely without losing my mind or my health. I mean no disrespect Mollyrae but I was hoping for medical advice from a proffesional....new to this whole computer thing. I really appreciate your response tho.
Hi:
I'm wondering why your Doctor hasn't offered to help you further?? There are medications out there for ppl like you who do not want to take the pain medication anymore. Have you discussed this with him?
I would guess that you're in a position where you do not need to take pain meds anymore, am I correct?
Please go to your Doctor and ask them to assist you in weaning off of the medication. I'm sure that they would be happy to do so.
Please take care and good luck,
Mollyrae
