Hi Med Man, Did any of these Dr's over this time period send you to a Physical Therapist? If not, that would be in order. The exercises seem simple, but they do help. Then ... you might want to join the American Chronic Pain Association, who helps people with Chronic Pain thru guided imagery techniques, again, it seems simple, but is effective. Also, this org will help you understand if the pain you have is local, systemic or nerve. Then you can ask more informed questions with your Dr's who should better explain what type of med would/could work for your situation. For example, are your muscles too tight? Why and does it require intervention (stretches or meds). I have seen athletes come back from some significant injury's using the methods I discussed. Best Wishes and Good Luck!
This seems strange to me. Pain management doctors often will do their own testing. If they thought the x-ray was too vague, they could have ordered you to have one. If the injury to your hand was in 2006, what have you been doing for the pain since then?
