Fentanyl patch

Another patch question so I appologise in advance!!
Put on my second 25mcg patch this morning at 7am and I am getting NO pain control. I stopped Methadone about 4 months ago(was on 40-60mgs a day) and have recently been taking 30mg of Oxycodone. I am really suprised that this patch has not been effective for me, perhaps I am more opiate tolerant than I thought? I know Methadone is very strong but I would have thought it would have been out of my sytem by now?
Does anyone think I will get pain control jumping up to the 50mcg patch? Looking for others who went from the 25mcg patch to the 50mcg who can enlighten me!
Looking forward to your replies.
-Brian.

Hi SChris,

I encourage you to begin your own thread instead of attaching your questions/concerns onto someone else's very old post. You'll obtain better responses....which is what we hope for you.

Best of Luck,

Just in case you didn't notice (I miss it all the time,) this post is really old.  If you have questions about the patch, you may do better to post your own question on it.

I will say I have not had any side effects from the patch but I didn't have the same side effects to the other meds you did.  (I did have that itching from Vicodin and was told to never take it again. Morphine also didn't work for me due to side effects other than itching.)

I was just given the fentanyl patch. I am afraid of side effects though. All of the others( morphine, codine, percocet and methadone) caused me to develop severe skin itching, no visible rash, just bad itching on my arms and legs. After three benedryls and a half hour it finally goes away. Anybody else have these problems?

I tried cold turkey to stop Methadone twice and failed miserably.
The third time I got down to one 10mg pill and jumped off. They say you need to get the liquid so you can taper evn slower and longer. I went through 2 weeks of pure hell, I still have some slight W/Ds and I'm four months out!

I don't think that you will get any relief jumping form 25 to 50 mg.  You have a history of high dose of opeoirds so your tolerance is high.  I as told that 100 mg is the highest dose but found out that someone else on this site takes 3 100 mg patches every 72 hours. How did you stop the methadone?  Did you tamper off of it?  I was put on morphine release caps but did not like the side effects.  I had to give them the remaining amount of pills in order to be placed on 25 mg of Fent.  This did nothing for me and I had some percosets left so it got me through until he upped the dose to 75 mg ever 72 hours. I feel like it only works for 2 days and I have trouble keeping it on my skin.  I was told that I have to buy this $30.00 tape from the pharmacy to help it stay on, if I don't then It's my fault and I will not be given any additional patches.  I have also been prescribed 7.5 mg vicodones 4 x  aday for break through pain.  I feel like it needs to be upped because I am still in pain and I am limited in the things I can due do to the pain.

25 mg is low for someone so opiate tolerant but be very careful I had a horrible experience with fentanyl, I was up to 75mg every 48 hours and It is horrible getting weaned. I hope you have better luck and can be pain free! Best of Luck
