chest pain

Every now and then, i will have random chest pains, and then i will black out, but not completly to where i fall down unconscious.  Its a really wierd sensation.  Once i start blacking out, my head goes numb, then my arms, and it just keeps going down my body.  sometimes it stops before i lose control of my legs, other times it doesnt and i just fall.  I have been to the hospital and primary doctor, and they cant find anything wrong with me.  They have done chest x-rays, have done exams on my heart, they just cant find anything.  i was wondering if anyone else out there has had this and has successfully found out what was wrong.  Or if anyone has any ideas of how i can find out what it is i would greatly appreciate it.

Hello Bladebitter,

I am so sorry to here about your mysterious symptoms. It must be frightening for you when they occur.

I am certainly no a physician. I am wondering why your PCP would deny you a brain CT with contrast or MRI of your brain?  These machines have really some along way in the past 20 years and though you are exposed to some radiation it is not life threatening.

In my opinion I would find another PCP that is willing to get to the bottom of your symptoms. Certainly this cannot be something you are suppose to learn to live with for the rest of your life. You are much too young to have to deal with this is a solution can be found. When your physician is not providing you with the reasons or you feel they are not listening it is time to move on to someone that will listen to you. Remember we hire physicians to preform a service for us, they are not doing is a favor. If the service is unexceptable or sub-par why would you continue to employ this physician?

There are a multitude of reasons that could be causing your symptoms but without proper medical screening it would be only guessing to come up with a diagnosis. Again I am sorry that you are having these episodes and sincerely hope that you will search for answers.

I wish you the best of luck in your search. Please keep us posted and let us know how you are doing. We will look forward to your next post.
Take care, Tuck

Well, I am 21 years old.  Have asthma, so i take the Albuterol inhaler and advair 250/50.  i dont take any other medicine because of it.  Fortunately i have never experienced this while in a car.  its only when im walking around the house.  sometimes it happens when i stand up, but most of the time it just happens,  i've had this for over 2 years now.  it happens maybe once a month at the most, usually every other month.  I havent had any serious injuries.  Besides asthma, i have hay fever, and scoliosis.  When my body goes numb the sensation is really wierd.  The best way i can describe it is that my body feels like it was a limb that fell asleep right before you get the tingly sensation when it starts to come back to life.  I get headaches after also.  I've been scared that it was a tumor in my brain and told my doctor that and he told me he didnt want to do a ct scan because it was too much radiation.

YIPES! that sounds dangerous no matter how you put it.  Have you ever been brought to the ER cause of it??  Are you taking any form of medicine, whether it be an everyday OTC drug, prescription meds, herbal supplements, vitamins or street drugs?  Have you ever taken any of the above?  Do you have any other diagnosed illness or problems?  How long have you had this?  Have you been in any form of an accident?
I know lots of questions, but, I am not a doctor, but, to be able to toss some ideas around with you, can you shed a little light on my questions?
There are alot of reasons why you would be experiencing any one of the symptoms but, with them all put together, it would definately take some testing by a speciaist to diagnose you.  But, I as well as others I am sure, will throw some ideas your way but, like I said, can you fill us in on any more details?

thanks - Montanagurl
