Gastric By-Pass

Iwas wondering if anyone on here has had this surgery and if so, have you found that your body does not absorb the meds meaning either you don't get any pain relief unless you take a higher dose and/or does your tolerance build up quicker?

I have been on this site for a long time and I used to post a lot, but haven't for a while...I suffer from chronic pain and I go to a pain mgmt Dr. I am on Roxi and Morphine and it just seems that my tolerance goes higher and higher so quickly and I wondered if it has anything to do with having the surgery.

I know this is a forum about addiction and I know there is a pain mgmt forum I could go to. However, I have built a few friendships on here and I just like to hear what people have to say. Plus I openly admit I am addicted to these meds and one day I will get off of them, but I am not ready right now...mainly b/c I don't want to live in pain.

So if anyone knows about this I would appreciate your thoughts..

Denise

Hi Bluespense,

Jollyman is the most experienced on this forum to answer you question. I agree with all he has said.

On a side note I noticed you consider yourself an addict but state you take pain medications because you are in pain. I certainly don't know how you take your meds but if you are taking them responsibly to control pain that does not make you an addict.

I think your tolerance is just increasing as it does to many of us. I would certainly discuss this with your surgeon to confirm our thoughts.
Good luck to you and take care, Tuck

Hi Denise you are in the pain mangement forum, they must have moved your post, Anyways i ahd gastric done in Sept. 07. I have been going to a pain mangement dr. for 4 years now. I really havent noticed a difference, i am on Avinza 30 mg..that is a timed release morphine, also i take percaset 10/325 4 of them a day for breakthrough pain. I am going to have it adjusted some because i have been on the percs for the 4 years. I am still getting releif, but i thinmk being on the percs as long as i have, i do have a tolerence built up. You have to remember the meds still go through the same precess of digestion as always they just go through a little quicker. How long ago was your gastric, and how long have you been on the meds you are taking now??
